Bathroom
Kitchen, microwave, frig.

Stereo playing 50's and doo wop or disco or Stones or Journey or ......

Whatever you want that has been deemed unacceptable in the main house. Exact items will vary by personal taste. I started with minimal stuff and added as “needs” revealed themselves.

Nice - maybe you can open up the space and not partition off a dedicated bedroom.

Nice music or audio options
Wet or dry bar
I'm partial to versatility so like occasional seating, storage benches, ottoman's that can double as a coffee table, etc…

1. The man.
B. The cave.
Third. Whatever makes the guy content.
Lastly. Pinball machines, pool table, dart board with stock symbols, lava lamp, electric train around the ceiling...I don’t know.

Disclaimer: I’m not a man and have never been in a man cave (as far as I know) so that’s the best I can come up with. Sounds like a fun project though. :happy

My brother’s two car garage is now the man cave in his household. Drywalled, painted, heated, beer fridge, microwave, all kinds of football signs and memorabilia. Workbench acts as the buffet table during games. Football parties.

Yeah, but then where will you go to get away when MIL visits?

Seriously, if there is no separate bedroom the "Man Cave" will be unusable when anyone visits over-night.

I disagree. Any of the ideas that serve to minimize the duration of the Mother-in-Law's visit are a man cave necessity.

Fishing Rods

Isn't the point of a man cave that it has what you want in it? It doesn't matter what we'd put in it.
whomever wrote: Fri Sep 11, 2020 5:28 pm Milling machine, lathe, welder, and workbench.
On the other hand, this is an appropriate answer, too. I'd also want to set up a nice electronics bench.

And if you let me approach this with an unlimited budget and time, I would also end up with a hidden underground lair, too. It would probably be more like Hogan's Heroes than Dr. No.

A whiskey bar, water cooler, two poker tables, poker chips, six high quality card decks, dice, safe, cameras, humidor, sauna, shower, large supply of venison jerky and frozen game meat, stereo system capable of blasting Smoke on the Water to seismic levels, mural interpretation of dogs playing poker on one side and Musk on Mars on the other, an arsenal, power rack, barbell and two thousand pounds of plates, and an array of reasonably priced televisions to display all the games worth betting on and charts of bitcoin and TSLA.

Very nice imagery for the most part, but somehow after reading this I have Smoke on the Water playing in my head and can’t unsee the frozen game meat and taxidermy.

Multiple TV screens. Top notch sound system. Well stocked bar and kegerator. Cabinet humidor in separate smoke room with ventilation. Billiard table, poker table and dart boards. Comfortable seating.
Security system. Friends who appreciate a man cave.

Strong wifi signal.
Quality huge TV.
Smaller secondary TV for emergency sports situations.
Excellent sound system.
Private entrance--preferably with a dimly lit downslope in case the urinal is crowded or dysfunctional.
A few very comfortable recliners.
Folding card table and chairs.
A door with a tendency to stick so badly that someone on the other side might get the impression that it was barricaded.
Well-stocked beer fridge.
Well-stocked wine rack.
Decently stocked liquor cabinet.
Conspicuous absence of ash trays--optional smoking area outside the private entrance.
Ice machine or small refrigerator with ice-maker.

On a more serious note be sure to put in good soundproofing on the ceiling so you will not disturb the people upstairs. There have been some threads on soundproofing that you can look up.

By definition, there are no necessities in a man cave. Fill it with whatever suits your fancy, within the bounds of your financial ability.

Other than a television and good, comfortable seating, the rest is fluff.
