Matcha green tea

Post by Wade Garrett »

Any matcha drinkers out there? I'm looking for recommendations on specific brands/suppliers.

I know about organic vs non-organic, ceremonial grade vs culinary grade, etc. Again, I'm asking about specific brands/suppliers/sources.

Looking around online comparing different brands of say organic ceremonial against one another, there's a BIG disparity in prices. And I'm skeptical about amazon reviews or reviews on a seller's website. Any help would be appreciated.

Harney & Sons sells matcha tea online. I can't comment on whether their matcha tea is superior or not, but they are generally considered a quality tea supplier.

I get mine from Costco. I've done similar research to you and determined that I cannot differentiate between superior product vs charlatans. I'm curious to follow this thread for others' opinions.

You can get it from Asian markets such as H-Mart or 99 Ranch, they have good price and variety to choose. For quality, I would recommend choose the products from Japan or Taiwan.

Look at the Reddit subforum, r/matcha. You'll find a wealth of information threads therein.

Used to drink matcha but got hooked on Nespresso. Does anyone know a reliable/quality supplier of matcha Nespresso pods? All the "compatible" ones I found online look sketchy.

I do. Perhaps it is an acquired taste. As the saying goes, variety is the spice of life.

On thing to consider is that there is a large and significant difference between well prepared quality matcha and poorly prepared, perhaps lumpy, watered down low quality matcha. Unfortunately, good matcha isn't cheap.

Ice cream and chocolate are fantastic.

Matcha latte is too.

Straight Matcha with sweets is fine too. I sip and don’t “drink” it like I would a latte though.
