This is so highly dependent, without your location it will be hard to compare. We are just over $40

Phoenix AZ area, Cox Internet

$44.99 out the door, monthly for 30mbps

Internet Essential 30

This is incredibly location-dependent, down to the town you live in (or even the neighborhood or street in some cases). So unless you tell us what town anything that posters suggest may not be very relevant to you.

There is a place here in town that charges $25 a month for internet. Nobody I knows uses them since you can't really utilize it due to the extremely slow speeds they provide. It is pretty much a last ditch service for those that can only afford to pay that and no more... and have a lot of patience.

We pay $10 a month for 50 mbs for AT&T fiber. It should be $30 per month but we bundle with cell phones do that gives us a $20 monthly lifetime credit.

I’ve noticed they’ve throttled it back a bit during the stay at home order but can’t complain at $10 a month.

It’s location dependent. Most people have somewhere between 0 and 2 choices. If you’re considering moving to get cheap internet, choose a place that has more than one choice.

I pay $12/month for 65Mpbs fiber to the home with FPT. I could downgrade to the 22Mbps plan, that's only $8/month.

I don't know what you can with that information. It is easy to look up the 1-3 service providers in your area and see what they charge. Someone who lives hundreds, or thousands, of miles away paying a different price...what are you going to do with that information? Move?

My ISP (Monkeybrains) is only available in about two-thirds of my city (San Francisco) and a few neighboring areas.
$500 one time set up fee for them to install a microwave antennae on the roof of our building and $35 per month. We broke even in 6 months.

I have also used a $10/month hotspot added on to my mobile plan (MetroPCS) in a pinch.

Comcast 100 MBps at $30 per month. My area has competition, so that certainly helps. But I also take some time each month to visit the Comcast store and talk to a customer service rep in person. I just explain that internet has to be a low cost for my budget, and they are usually very happy to make a deal. I set a reminder on my calendar for when I need to come back a year from then, and walk out a happy customer.

That depends on what you consider to be "home internet"?

There are still dial-up internet providers throughout USA that will get you on line for under $20/month. Checkout names like netzero, juno and earthlink. That assumes you still have a landline phone to run it through. If not, adding that (if possible) will put you over $40/mo.

If you haven't tried dial-up recently, don't. It's worse than slow.

If you don't use much data you would be better off tethering your computer to a cellphone. Better yet get yourself an LTE cellular home modem/router and buy a hotspot plan. You can get a netgear LB1120 for $120 on Amazon/Walmart/Staples and it will work with AT&T or T-Mobile. You can get a 6 GB/mo hotspot plan from T-Mobile for $25/month if that is enough for you.

Now if you are talking about streaming movies/sports/church services I'm afraid you aren't going to find anything in your price range in the USA. Face it -- Internet is expensive.

Atlanta-area here. Charter Spectrum 30 MBPS for 17.99/month. They don't advertise it much but it is available (I just confirmed on their site) and I have used it for the last six months.

I am in Chicago IL and pay $39.00 a month through Comcast for their "blast" plan and I own my own modem/router. This is the regular price and not a promotion that I have been paying for a few years now.

Impossible here in the north east. Cable internet speeds of 100 - 300 mbps is minimum $60-$80/month and I refuse to downgrade to DSL to save a buck a day. Might as well have no internet than super slow internet.

I have a $25/month hotspot with T-Mobile. My phone runs several computers at once. It never had heavy use until this month, and it is streaming movies on the laptop just fine.

Am in SoCal. We have Cox's COVID-19 offer: $20/mo for 10 Mbps for the first year, I believe it goes up in steps to $25 and then $35 or similar after the first year. Speed is 50 Mbps during pandemic.

Before this we had the regular offering of 30 Mbps (also upgraded to 50 during the pandemic), $40/mo for the first year, I believe then it goes up to $60+.

Key with getting good pricing is either switching providers (if you have a choice) or signing up (e.g., with a spouse's name) as a new customer every 12 months.

Comcast
Cannot get anything for less than $99.99/month for their Triple Play.
I currently have a 3 Mbps Economy Plus Internet for $29.95 which is grandfathered. It is tolerable enough for streaming CBS All Access on one TV.

FIOS has offer for internet for $39.95 for 1 year 200 Mbps, but with this crisis, I am not going to be changing.

The confusion may have to do with how your local phone company is marketing DSL. Your 50 mb/sec sounds like VDSL2, what CenturyLink used to call fiber (FTTN). They used to reserved the term DSL for ADSL which maxes out at about 7 mbps. They were doing that to limit 3rd party DSL providers to the slower connections.

Wow, that's excellent. I'm in metro Atlanta, too, and I'm paying $30/month for AT&T 25 Mbps. It's normally $40, but I'm getting a $10 discount by bundling with DirecTV.

I'm quite surprised you were able to re-up for two more years @ promo rate. I have to negotiate every six months to a year with Comcast, and I've been doing this for 20 years. Never have I been able to get a promo rate for three years. What's your trick?

We play the game of using new email addresses and different family members...and we live in two different states, so we are able to get the special rates such as Xfinity in Florida for $29.99 a month. In theory these would increase after a year but we cancel before that time and then do it again.

It's harder to do when you live somewhere for a long time...

Yes. $33.45 or so with all fees for 50/10 with RCN. Every year they raise it $10, and I call and tell them I'd like to cancel and switch to Comcast, and every year they bring it back down to $30 + fees.

Xfinity/Comcast used to have a $29.99 deal for 1st year (contract required), but they up it after that. When I was with them I used my own modem, not sure what there fee is if I had rented theirs. Cheapest deal I see now is $34.99
https://www.xfinity.com/learn/internet-service/deals

Currently using local telco DSL (Frontier) basic no contract is $27.99 a month (they will require you to rent their modem for an addition $10 a month, but still under $40). Works fine for me, but I imagine if you had multiple concurrent users in the house (especially if all streaming video) might be a bit slow.
https://frontier.com/offer/experiencefrontier-c

I've been looking at/considering the $45 a month no-contract "Xfinity Prepaid" .. but that's over the limit you suggested

We pay $35 for 150 Mbps in the Boston area. I think key is whether you live in an area that has true competition, so you can switch carriers at the end of each promo period. We have never actually had to switch, just conveying that we were considering it have been enough to get the promo rate in perpetuity.

Maybe it is regional there is no tax on the $39.99 in NJ or NY. $39.99 is what is what Verizon takes out of bank account in either NY or NJ.

We are currently on $19.99 plan from Comcast for 30 mpbs. The price is for a year. This is in Utah. There is some competition but nothing crazy good.

$37 per month on Frontier DSL at 3 Mbps in Washington.

This includes a $6 modem rental fee. I had a lengthy conversation with them about the legality of charging a modem rental fee despite the fact I owned my own modem.

I eventually realized the person I was dealing with was ex-PFC Wintergreen, that the modem fee was not going away, and even complaining to the utility commission would likely only result in learning that Catch-22 made the fee legitimate.

My other options are roughly the same speed through mobile data but an unacceptable data cap, or a massive fee to extend cable to my house, plus a significantly higher monthly fee even if I play the 6 month pricing game.

DSL (digital subscriber line) internet generally offers download speeds usually in the 5–35 Mbps range. Upload 1–10 Mbps range. If you're getting 50 that's impressive, but nothing like 300 !

Checking available options in my state, Earthlink offers up to 15 mbps..

Although our internet is spotty here some days, so I have nothing to brag about at our residence!

We pay $20 a month out the door for internet with Comcast. We have our own modem. It is 25 Mbps and we have found that perfectly fine for streaming (we have YouTube TV on 3 tvs) and all our devices. It is a one year deal and after the year we transfer it (between spouses).

A lot of people don't know how much speed they really need based on the comments. Unless you are streaming 4k video on 4-6 devices at one time you likely don't need 100 Mbps.

Impossible here in the north east. Cable internet speeds of 100 - 300 mbps is minimum $60-$80/month and I refuse to downgrade to DSL to save a buck a day. Might as well have no internet than super slow internet.
I have DSL 50 mb/sec. not slow at all. can't get fios, so it's dsl or cable modem for us. are you confusing dsl with dial up?

DSL (digital subscriber line) internet generally offers download speeds usually in the 5–35 Mbps range. Upload 1–10 Mbps range. If you're getting 50 that's impressive, but nothing like 300 !

Checking available options in my state, Earthlink offers up to 15 mbps..

Although our internet is spotty here some days, so I have nothing to brag about at our residence!
i'm sorry, i was misguided. I just did a speed test and it's 10 mb per sec.

still no problems streaming and doing what we need to do.

FTTN isn't a CenturyLink-specific term. It means fiber to the node. DSL often is run several miles to a central office, and data rate has to limited in order to achieve a useable signal to noise ratio over that length of untwisted, poorly terminated telephone wire.

When providers make the more modest investment (compared to fiber to the home) of running fiber to a neighborhood cabinet, then DSL from the cabinet to the home, distances are much shorter. 100 Mbps is possible out to about 1000' line length.

G.fast DSL tests have reportedly achieved 500 Mbps at 100m on phone wiring, but I don't think G.fast is widely deployed, and due to the short distance over which that level of performance can be achieved, it would mostly be relevant to serving apartment buildings with fiber to the basement.

It's quite an improvement, though. 15 years ago when I was doing tech support in college, we were providing older dorms with fiber to the basement and DSL to the individual rooms that I think was 6 Mbps.

We pay $30 per month for 1 Gbps (Down and UP) service from Verizon FIOS.

if you don't believe me I can show you the bill (I will hide the part of the bill that shows we also have TV and phone service - the old triple-play we keep singing up for to get the deal).

Cox, only with new customer pricing
$40 for 50 mbps down - was 35, but they upped it with the COVID stuff.

$65 after 12 month promo period, I think. They make it very hard to determine actual pricing.
We usually call to threaten cancellation after the promo to try and get a discount. Two months ago we went through with 'canceling' and the service is now back in my name. I truly despise how cable/internet companies are run. They have a monopoly and offer the worst service and pricing.

I hotpot off TMoible Apple 7. 60 a month for phone and internet. 30 30 split in cost. I look at whole monthly payment and try to get things that fit. Higher cost doesn't mean better service for all. I've been with cable for 4 years, but they just whittling away at my upload speed I disconnect service when it dropped to 2mb up. At the beginning, 2 companies ago, I was getting 20mb up.
It was balanced, and they just expand at the users cost. It's regulated, but I sure can't tell that.

FTTN wasn't their term at all. Their term was "fiber". I added FTTN to clarify that CL was not in fact running fiber to the home then like they do in some places today. At the time they were only running fiber down the main streets to the DSLAM in the neighborhoods. They marketed this as fiber at the time and distinguished it from DSL.
