What will you do first, once COVID pandemic is over?

Post by mrspock » Sat Mar 28, 2020 3:38 pm

Curious what everyone's plans are once the pandemic is over -- ("over" being defined as social distancing measures are rescinded)? Will you take a road trip? Visit friends and family? What will you cherish so much more after this?

I'm going to visit friends back home, especially my folks. And I think I'll cherish the idea of community and "togetherness", in all it's forms, much more once this is over. Being amongst people at a coffee shop, interacting with colleagues at work, seeing everyone bustle around a mall or people enjoying a sunny day strolling along the beach. These are all things I took for granted, and now that they are gone, I miss them.

To borrow from a Livesoft post on market bottom, it won't be over until the shelves are stocked with toilet paper.

Frankly, I don't think people are going to be rushing back into close quarters. It isn't like there will be a vaccine or cure. The malls will be sparsely populated for quite some time. Restaurants (the few that survive) will reconfigure with seating spaced out. Theaters have to rethink their entire business. Seating is jammed in and I suspect people will simply stop going to theaters.
When you discover that you are riding a dead horse, the best strategy is to dismount.

On the road again
I just can't wait to get on the road again
The life I love is makin' music with my friends
And I can't wait to get on the road again

On the road again
Goin' places that I've never been
Seein' things that I may never see again
And I can't wait to get on the road again

Probably get a vent latte at Starbucks, leave a Christmas size tip, sit back in my office chair and think about what I want to do with the remainder of my life. Just seems like a good time for a little self-reflection.

As an introvert, I'm digging this social distancing. Working from home in my sweats ... can't beat it. If I survive this thing, I guess one of the first things I'll have to do is go back into work. Bleh.

Give my daughters and grandchildren big hugs.

DD's have isolated their families from DW and I, for our benefit.

We are using FaceTime in the meantime.

Can't wait to see them in real time, physical presence.

I really miss my littles! :(

About the "working from home"... Last night, DH showed me a report from Amazon that for apparel, "tops" were outselling "bottoms".
You know... sitting at a desk/laptop at home, who needs pants? :D

If the definition of "pandemic is over" is "defined as social distancing measures are rescinded", then we won't do much different *yet*.
We'll need more of a definition of "over" before we go back even close to normal.

(But we are in a high risk group, already had a recent episode "too close to this for comfort", and we do NOT want to deal with anything similar!)

I wonder how the airlines will space their seats.

Visit my nieces, their hubbies, and their dogs. Go to a grocery store and pick my own food. Get a haircut. Make an appointment with my doctor for my bi-yearly blood tests, my dentist for a cleaning, and my eye doctor for a checkup all of which WERE scheduled for April.

First thing will be a cut and color at my hairstylist. No way am I being seen without a hat until then. :)

After that, visit my mom who is in a memory care facility. Even though she can't remember things from one minute to the next, she somehow knows when I haven't visited in a while. Odd since, even if I visit everyday, she thinks it's been weeks, but if I'm out of town and don't see her for a couple weeks, she gets cranky to the caregivers. I hear she's been a handful lately.

Haircut, gym, and spend some time with family and friends I haven’t been able to see because of all this.

One thing I will not be doing is going out to restaurants. Used to go out quite a lot, but I’m not missing it at all and I’m saving at least $1k a month eating at home.

I would suspect that we will be taking care of the grandkids at our house.

Our son and his wife are in self isolation with a 1 and 3 year old and while things are going well I am sure that they will have a bad case of cabin fever.

The trees aren't a vector. Crowds are a vector. When the parks and trails get crowded enough, people can't maintain 6 feet separation. More specifically, even if it doesn't get crowded, people who are traveling greater distances to get to the parks and trails put greater pressure on the local hospitals, grocery stores, and gas stations, which usually can only support a small rural population. The closure is either to protect you or to protect the local population. Or both.

For those wondering about spacing on airlines or theaters , couldn’t we just require the use of masks for all in the future until there is a cure?
