David Olney died of a heart attack on-stage while performing at 30-A Songwriters' Festival this weekend.Doom&Gloom wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2020 12:31 pm Same as usual: a playlist now approaching 2000 tracks (via Spotify & my ripped CDs) from a wide variety of mostly lesser known Americana singer-songwriters.
Currently playing as I type this: David Olney's Jerusalem Tomorrow.
I'll be listening to even more of his stuff than usual for a while. RIP Dave.

Radio Classics on SiriusXM. Old time radio plays (no F bombs whatsoever), dated comedies, suspense, crime dramas, and many ancient but hugely entertaining pairs of Holmes and Dr Watson. Welcome respite from daily noise and irritainment

True. His voice, never really good, has been really awful for many years. Fortunately there is lots of music from his earlier years I can listen to.Nicolas wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2020 7:06 pmWe’ve still got Bob.Broken Man 1999 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2020 3:17 pm The Traveling Wilburys (Disc 1 and Disc 3). Getting wound up for festival season...probably a Lockn', DelFest, and NOLA Jazz Fest artist. Otherwise, some neo-funk, neo-soul, or electronic music.

I wonder what the Spotify algorithms will think of my last two album choices. Currently enjoying my favorite band of all time, Genesis, Live Over Europe (2007). Previously listened to Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers, "The Long-Awaited Album".

Thanks for sharing this! I discovered her through a local jazz station about 6 years ago and have her CD. She had such a great voice with lots of emotion.

Jeff and Tal were part of Eric Clapton's guitar fest for his drug rehab facility one year. Nice set, as was your find.El Greco wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2020 12:41 am Jeff Beck Appearing Live this Week at Ronnie Scott's If there is any doubt that Beck is the greatest living Rock guitarist, this live performance recorded and videoed back in 2008 will erase it. I was never a fan of Beck until I stumbled across it on late night TV a few years ago. Since then, I've attended a few live performances and, incredibly, he keeps getting better at 70+ years of age. Here is a youtube link to one of the numbers called "Big Block"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdX6ly6ftUM
BTW, his backup band on this video is top notch. Tal Wilkenfeld on Bass, Jason Rebello, Keyboards and the amazing Vinnie Colaiuta on Drums.
They both are outstanding artists. Tal is much easier on the eyes than Jeff. She still has the fresh bloom of youth. Jeff, not so much.

Right now Franz Joseph Clement Violin Concertos #1 and #2 on CD from Sony Classics, which my wife recently purchased (she spends a lot of $$$ on classical CDs) this month (it's a 2020 release). Never heard of him before, but he was pals with Beethoven, quite the virtuoso violinist, and a pretty good composer judging by the tracks.

Re: What are you listening to now
I don’t remember much about the concert or exactly what he played, it was a long time ago. It was on Mar 24, 1981 at the Performing Arts Center, Milwaukee, WI, as I just found out from researching online, but I haven’t found the set list yet. He was 88 years old at the time.JAZZISCOOL wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2020 7:37 pmWow! That would have been so cool.Nicolas wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2020 6:38 pmSegovia was one of the greats.
