- Is this a worthwhile investment if he's only printing 5-10 per year?
- Can you recommend a good one?
You say he is "gathering family photos, printing them at CVS.." Does this mean he is finding old negatives and making prints of those? If so, he needs something to scan the negatives first, and a printer to print them. But that's not the case if the photos are already digital.JoeChick10 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2019 11:09 amAs an X-Mas gift, we are looking to potentially get my dad a photo printer. He has an office and enjoys gathering family photos, printing them at CVS (or somewhere similar) and hanging them up. Printing at CVS is expensive so we wanted get him one to print his own. If this is worth doing, I would think the photos need to print in similar quality and at a variety of sizes but mainly 5x7.

Good point. He is printing from photos taken from an iPhone. I will adjust post as well. Thanks.Teague wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2019 11:15 amYou say he is "gathering family photos, printing them at CVS.." To your questions:

No, this would not be worthwhile economically for the very low volume you mention.
Can you recommend a good one?
Probably, but we need to nail down just what he is wanting to do first.
I assume that you actually meant more than a lot more than that but even then the problem is that if you do not use it regularly the ink will dry out and clog the print heads.JoeChick10 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2019 11:09 amIs this a worthwhile investment if he's only printing 5-10 per year?
No, it's not a worthwhile investment.JoeChick10 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2019 11:09 amAs an X-Mas gift, we are looking to potentially get my dad a photo printer. ? Printing 5x7 at Walgreens, CVS, etc is dirt cheap. A 5x7 is $3. 4x6s are less than 50 cents.JoeChick10 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2019 11:09 amAs an X-Mas gift, we are looking to potentially get my dad a photo printer. +1
He wants 5x7. Walmart is $.69 to have them mailed. Costco and CVS are $.59.climber2020 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2019 1:21 pmGet them printed at Walmart. He can upload the pictures to Walmart's website and have them shipped to the closest store for 9 cents per 4x6 print. I think the one hour service is 25 cents per print.
1. No. The ink cartridges will dry out if not used regularly. And, they are expensive.JoeChick10 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2019 11:09 amAs an X-Mas gift, we are looking to potentially get my dad a photo printer.
