LCD Monitor with Native Resolution of 1280x1024

Are there any issues using a 1280x1024 monitor today with the latest computers?

I have access to a very nice 1280x1024 LCD monitor which has an aspect ratio of 5:4. The screen measures 15" wide, 12" high, and 19" across the diagonal.

My recollection was that this aspect ratio had some advantages for pdf documents with less scrolling required. I'm wondering if there are other considerations.

I currently own five of these and don't have any complaints, but maybe I am used to them. Wide-format movies will get letterboxed. They are cheap.

I am thinking of switching out what I have for monitors that can be rotated 90 degrees for documents, but I doubt that I will buy more pixels.

There is no problem using today other than it will be a little lower resolution than that targeted by most modern sites and programs.

There was a time when ‘widescreen’ might have meant 1366x768 where you were giving up vertical real estate to go wider, but since most monitors today are 1920x1080 or higher you get both the vertical resolution and more horizontal space with today’s newer monitors.

I'm currently using Windows 7 and noticed that I have sixteen choices for screen resolution ranging from 1920x1080 all the way down to 800x600.

It looks like it would be worth my while to connect the 1280x1024 monitor and see how it looks.
