Hobe Sound, FL

Post by skime » Sat Nov 02, 2019 3:54 pm

My family is considering moving to Hobe Sound, FL. Does anyone here have any insight about the area?
Any information on what it's like to live there - good or bad - would be appreciated.

It's a wonderful part of Florida and is home to celebrities and many of the wealthiest people in Florida. Based on some of your earlier posts, you appear to be in a position to consider Hobe Sound as a possibility. Current listings show a manufactured home for $117K and two homes on the beach at $17.5 million.

Hobe Sound is in Martin County, one of the few places in coastal Florida with strict development controls in place. It's one of the nicest places as a result and doesn't suffer from the overpopulation and congestion problems of Palm Beach County and points south, yet it's still a convenient 35-40 minute drive to West Palm Beach if you want major medical, big city shopping or to catch a flight at the airport.

Vero Beach is another popular retirement destination in Florida with similar demographics but it doesn't have the easy proximity to West Palm Beach. It's much further north in kind of a no man's land. There are few nicer places in Florida. Good choice. :sharebeer

Especially with the long-term bridge closure you'd better borrow the neighbor's private jet (or really fast yacht) if you want to get to Palm Beach in thirty minutes:

Other than that, as mentioned the only downside with Hobe Sound is lack of real estate, plus you have to drive a little farther to the north (Stuart) or south (Jupiter/Tequesta) for most businesses.

Vero Beach is farther from the airports. Hobe Sound has access to both PBI and FLL - FLL is not that much farther south.

We have friends that live there and it is a beautiful area. One thing to be aware of is beach access. Jupiter Island (where the mega rich live) is the barrier island parallel to Hobe Sound. There is a Hobe Sound public beach on Jupiter Island but it has an extremely small parking lot that is always full. That means going up to Stuart Beach on Hutchinson Island for a public beach.

However, depends where you're flying because some airlines don't fly to all destinations out of Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) during the summer - only during the winter season 8-)
