Reliable SUV under $10K. Any recommendations?

Post by Ztx » Sat Oct 12, 2019 12:26 pm

Howdy Bogleheads!

Looking for a reliable suv recommendation for my mom for under $10K. She will drive it for 2-3 years, probably 6-7 K miles per year. It needs to be able to safely transport her granddaughter.

Any thoughts on Ford Edge 2011-2012? Looks like I can get one for ~$10K or so. Also looking at 2009-2010 Honda CRVs but they are a bit smaller and lacking safety features like blin spot monitor, backup camera etc.

May be some other cars I'm missing?

Thanks!!

It seems you have already done some research on safety ratings and equipment. Why an SUV vs. sedan?

I like the size and smooth ride of the Edge. It would be a good choice. 2013 and up Escape if she thinks the Edge is too big.

She really wants an SUV so I want to make her happy.

Thanks! Escape might be on a smaller side. How was your experience reliability-wise with Edge?

We had a 2007 and now a 2018 Edge. The 2007 was very reliable. It went to a kid at 110k. Also have a Flex with 77k. Very happy with Ford reliability.
