Can anyone recommend an affordable TV stand wide enough for a 65" TV?

Post by Bob Sacamano » Thu Sep 19, 2019 5:40 pm

about to buy the new TCL ROKU 65" and, unfortunately, the stand is placed at the very end of each side of the TV. appears to be a distance of 56.9" wide.

my current stand is way too small to accommodate.

any recommendations appreciated!

thanks.

I think you’d better define “affordable!”

Consider wall mounting it.

If that's infeasible, then perhaps either the standing mounts it comes with can be repositioned, or you could get a different stand that can be attached to the back mounts.

If you have an IKEA nearby, the Lack TV stand will fit your TV and is relatively inexpensive: https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/lack-tv-un ... -20105341/

I have this TV stand and it accommodates my 65" Samsung TV which takes a similar "wide stance".

Keep in mind that TVs are typically measured diagonally. With the thin bezels that modern TVs have, a 65" is likely well under 65" wide.

I second the IKEA recommendation. I have a 65" tv, but the edges hang over the profile of the stand.....so it wouldn't work (this tv's support points are inboard from the edges of the tv) . There are others on the IKEA site that will easily support your tv at the outside margins.

For those who DO have such a big TV, of modern thickness and weight, sitting on a stand, do you really feel comfortable with it there? Seems like such a big awkward thing would be very inclined to tip over if bumped somehow.

Yes you could (and probably should) secure it with a wall strap or two, but if you're gonna do that anyways, why not just wall-mount?

I have same TV. I bought this:
https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/kallax-she ... -40275846/

Put it’s on it’s side and it’s perfect for the TV.

right, it's closer to 59. still a good 14" wider than my current stand.

We have a big flat screen on a piece of furniture about the size of the LACK linked to above.

But our furniture is very heavy. So it isn’t just dimensions, but stability/weight.

thanks for both the Ikea suggestions. those look good.

don't want to go through the hassle of wall mounting in a rental apt.

How about two identical small stands, one on each side?

Use a table top mount like this: https://www.amazon.com/Fitueyes-Univers ... YEX5D18144
This is what we do as well for a 65". I refuse to buy a large heavy TV stand. We went with a 50" TV stand instead with a mount like above.

I have 65 inch TV.

I put it on this stand, which I highly recommend.

I have straps to make sure it doesn't topple forward. I'm comfortable with the safety of it.

My brother did this! It freaks me out but they are happy with it. Has been that way for a couple of years.

Maybe you can buy one with a stand in the middle rather than 2 legs on the side. Then you don't need to buy new cabinet.

On Amazon, it usually tells you what size tv's the stand will fit.

Apparently that seems to be the new trend. I find it pretty stupid. My old and much heavier plasma 50” tv is quite stable on its pedestal stand. It is a good 24”+ wide. You’d have to intentionally pull on it to tip it. And if you have kids the only safe mount is up on the wall.

Of course some of the new tvs are so light and fragile that you have to be careful bending the tv. At least one I saw at work.

I think they are trying to save money. From my observation, usually (but not always) higher end units use pedestal stands.

Picked up these legs from Amazon ($18) for my 55" TCL that is becoming my patio TV.

https://vivo-us.com/products/stand-tv00y

I'm in the process of building a mobile cabinet for it so I will be drilling a couple holes in each foot and bolting it through the framing to keep it from tipping when moved. They are heavier than I expected and seem very sturdy. My TV has a VESA 200 mount so they are only about 8" apart which would make me nervous if they were not going to be bolted down. If that is the TCL 6 series in the OP that looks to have a VESA 300 mount so 50% wider, but still requires some kind of secondary security IMO.

There are plenty of pedestal mounts out the too but they all seem to have glass bases which would be more difficult to secure for my project - I can drill steel much easier than glass.

There is a safety feature involved of having a large enough stand. Go to a Big Box store to get the minimum size you need, then either shop bargains or look on Craigslist, Next Door or ads. They are very commonly sold by people moving at very reasonable prices.

Google Artisan TV stands. They have good-looking and great-quality furniture including TV stands.

I built one from 2*4 pine studs. Then painted and covered with a tablecloth. Cost me a couple hours and less than $20
