"Earth First" Brand Toilet Paper @ Costco

Post by BolderBoy » Fri Aug 02, 2019 3:36 pm

I've been using the Kirkland brand of TP and it is just fine.

A friend sent a shaming email saying the Canadian forests are being plundered to make Kirkland Brand TP. Today I found the "Earth First" brand at Costco. Cheaper than Kirkland and mostly made of recycled "products". I asked another patron (female) what she thinks of it ("Is it like using tree bark?") and she said it is definitely not like Charmin but is "okay" and besides after all, this is Boulder County...

What say ye, who have been using Earth First?

(PS - Earth First also makes paper towels)

I also used Kirkland but switched to Earth First. True, It's not Charmin but it's ok.
If it was truly bad, I would have switched back (or to something else).

Here is a Chart I was sent about the good, the bad and the ugly.

Hmmm...my brand rates a "D". Thanks for posting the link. Will track this thread for opinions as I would hate buying a Costco-sized package for a trial. Hopefully it's available by the roll elsewhere.

As long as there is >50% of the package remaining, Costco will take it back without questions.

The article never mentions that the forests are replanted.

I wonder if it would be more eco-friendly for one to install a bidet rather than concern oneself with brand of toilet paper. Or do both.
I guess it all could be much worse. | They could be warming up my hearse.

We are installing Toto washlet toilets as I post this. Solar powers the well pump, washlet, septic for the waste. No trees were harmed in the telling.
Okay, I get it; I won't be political or controversial. The Earth is flat.

There are two different Kirkland Signature Brand TP products at Costco dot com. There is the cheaper one, and the nicer one.

Toilet paper is like parachutes (and professional services such as doctors, lawyers, dentists) in that quality is more important than price.

Assuming you don't live in an arid area, consider installing a bidet attachment to your existing toilet. This also uses less water than even recycled TP production.

I'll make a note to look into this. Colorado is semi-arid.

If the forest has been clear cut and then replanted, then there isn't much "forest" to save. While I am all in favor of using post-consumer recycled paper (and will be switching my toilet paper), assuming that doing so will save "the forest" is probably a bit of wishful thinking.

Not that this helps the forest but having been through several paper mills I can say the amount of water used during production is massive but 99%+ of it is returned to its source. The water is filtered on its way in, used in the process, filtered on its way out - paper mills today actually clean an untold number of gallons of water in our polluted rivers.

According to my sewer drain cleaning company, Charmin is associated with more drain clogs than any other brand. The first question they asked was "Do you use Charmin?" We don't but that's their experience.

I got Scott's once at Costco because it was cheap. I learned why. Was glad when I finally used the last of it.
