Owners of RECENT Speed Queen washers ONLY

Post by A440 » Tue Jul 16, 2019 5:52 pm

Speed Queen has an offer to extend all their washing machines warranties to 10 years parts and labor. This offer ends Sept 30.
So, one could purchase a TR3 and instead of getting a 3 year parts/labor warranty you can get 10 years.
I've read all the horrible reviews of post 2017 Speed Queen washers.

So...how many Bogleheads have purchased the NEWER models? Can you recommend them? I'm NOT interested in hearing about the 2017 and before models, or any other brand. We just need to decide on the recent models and whether or not to take advantage of this offer.
Thank you.

I purchased a new Speed Queen TR3000WN washer in 10/2018. I've had no issues with it and it works great. I probably do 1-2 loads of laundry per week. I love how heavy duty it is and appreciate its simple design compared to some other washers on the market. I recommend it, especially if they are going to extend their warranty an additional seven years.

We got the front loader (TR3000?) in 2018. I put it on an Amex to get the extra two years of warranty. I figured that if anything went wrong it would happen in the first 5 years.

We got a washer dryer combo a couple of months ago. We got whichever model has the least electronics. So far, so good.

If you are going to buy a new Speed Queen washer, the one you want to buy is the TC5 which just recently came out. For this model they went back to the design of the 2017 and before models which everyone seems to love.

Construction on my house will be complete soon and I plan on getting the TC5/DC5 combo.

I bought a TR5/DR5 top-load washer/dryer about two weeks ago and everything has gone well so far. At least, I think it's a TR5 because it came with a 5 yr warranty. Where are the details on this extra warranty offer?

Parents purchased a matching set within the past year on my recommendation. Was either 5 or 3 series, just don't have it in front of me.

They're very happy with the purchase -- clothes come out clean & dryer works well. No issues and as far as they're concerned. The products perform under real world cleaning for casual clothes, yard work clothes, hunting/fishing clothes, etc.

I was told about it from my local sales/service installer. I contacted Speed Queen for the details, but they have not yet replied.

Good to know. Thanks for the information.
It seems like Speed Queen knew they missed the mark with the 2018 changes so they went back to the transmission drive to placate the buyers. The price point seems high when compared with the Maytag Commercial washer equivalent. BTW, the 10 year warranty offer is supposed to cover ALL Speed Queen models: TR and TC series. I'm still waiting on Speed Queen's reply for the official wording.

We purchased a TR5 in early 2019 and it has been working just fine. No issues.

After researching all the washers, we ultimately settled on Speed Queen for durability and (hopefully) longevity. No bells and whistles, just standard, tried and true technology. Speed Queen is the way to go.

We got a set the last year they did mechanical controls...2016 maybe?
All of the electronic ones had 5 year warranties, as I recall; maybe they came out with a new electronic line to replace the mechanical line?

Will have to see if I qualify; thanks for the heads up.

What was the difference(s) between the pre 2018 and the 2018 and post models? I seem to remember a posting in 2018 that had something to do with the new top-load washing action and not being as good as the 2017s and older. Does anyone know the specifics of the changes and what they are going back to now? We have the 2017 top-loading washer/dryer set and like its washing actions very much. Although I personally think the washer is too noisy. :annoyed

Early models (2017 and before) had a transmission-driven agitator.
2018 models switched to a belt driven agitator ("agitub") that moved the agitator and tub. This motion provided for a more gentle washing system. The 2018 also has a lid lock, so you can't add clothes to the load once it starts. These changes were made to be more energy efficient.
2019 went back to the transmission-driven agitator, no lid lock, and the option for a medium or deep fill water level.
Check out some comparisons of 2018 vs 2019 on YouTube for more details.
