Amazon Smile donations to John Bogle Foundation [and other charities]

Post by LeeMKE » Wed Jun 12, 2019 3:42 am

This just in from Amazon:
This is your quarterly AmazonSmile donation notification. Your charity, John C Bogle Center for Financial Literacy, recently received a quarterly donation of $106.06 thanks to customers shopping at smile.amazon.com.

To date, AmazonSmile has donated a total of:
$1,336.58 to John C Bogle Center for Financial Literacy
$134,890,393.33 to all charities
Thank you for supporting John C Bogle Center for Financial Literacy by shopping at smile.amazon.com.
If you shop at Amazon, you can set up your account for a charitable donation each time you purchase. Amazon makes the donation, so you don't get the deduction, but most of us here would agree we owe a debt to John Bogle and want to help spread the word about personal financial management.

To start, just go to Smile.Amazon.com, login and choose your charity. Then bookmark the link to use when shopping at Amazon and all purchases will be credited with a donation. (Not quite all, but almost everything is eligible.)

I just received the same email, but my charity is St Jude Children’s Hospital which just received a quarterly donation of $415.616.45 - pretty remarkable!

I'm curious if there is a difference in Amazon Smile and donating by using the Boglehead link to enter Amazon (which is what I do). Anybody know?

The one difference I know is that using the Boglehead link seems to be anonymous and I'm not sure that Smile is. I know I can tell which smile program other people use if they send me an email with information about something they have purchased.

This thread is now in the Personal Consumer Issues (how we spend our money and our time). I also retitled the thread to include charities other than the John Bogle Foundation.

Are you sure that's the quarterly donation and not the total ever donation?

It took some doing but my charity, my local church, finally filled out the forms to accept Amazon Smile's donation. So I now can donate to my church through Amazon Smile.

I don't know how much was in the last quarter, but I've donated a total of $48.11 to Bogleheads via Amazon Smile.

There are websites where the actual % dollars ending up funding a charitable cause, vs "operating costs" can be looked up.

Donations directly to fund this forum can be given directly.
We try to run as much as we can through Amazon.smile to the J.B.Foundation.

Yep. never met Carol, but I have toured the facility. I have no idea as to the truth concerning whether Carol killed her husband. But I still support the big cats, not the hot mess humans.

So you saw a mountain lion, awesome! Though, you might have not thought it so awesome! Hopefully you don't have an outdoor cat or dog!

I was very happy to learn long ago that something Bogle related was a donation recipient. Happy to help them in any way.

I direct my Amazon Smile donations to a local educational charity. According to the dashboard, there must not be many people locally using this option, as my annual contributions were about 1/3 of their annual donations.
