Where to Buy an Area Rug in a Particular Color

Post by Kennedy » Mon May 06, 2019 11:22 pm

I have been searching for a place to purchase a large, indoor area rug in a particular color. It's a shade of blue but with green tones...not quite a teal or a turquoise or a royal blue. The color is that which is in this fabric swatch: http://maryjos.com/store/decor/upholste ... 492-aegean

I've looked online at the usual places (Wayfair, Overstock and general Google searches). I've spent hours searching online as well as at several chain type stores in my local area.

Any suggestions for where I might find something that matches the color linked above?

Check with Budget Blinds. They carry area rugs. They'll do a free in-home consultation/demonstration.

If you are looking for something simple (no pattern), try a flooring store that sells carpet. Most will make an area rug of any size from wall to wall type carpet (and there are alot of color choices) and have various choices for binding. I had a rug made of New Zealand wool in an odd size (7x7) with a tape binding for a similar price to buying a ready made area rug. Custom area rugs are available in a myriad of colors but will be pricey.

This rug in turquoise looks close:

With Flor, you buy the number of "tiles" you need to create an area rug.

We also went the carpet store route for a custom area rug. Got exactly what we wanted.

I've had a lot of success with https://www.rugs-direct.com/. You can search rugs by color -- it looks like they have several in the color range you are looking for. Once I find a couple of options I like on this site, I buy the smallest available size of each rug to see the color, and then return them, and buy the larger size of the winning rug. I am out the shipping costs to return the smaller rugs, but it is well worth it to make sure that I know what I am getting!

Edit: I own this (https://www.rugs-direct.com/Details/Ori ... 596/200448) rug, which seems close to the color you are looking for. I don't know if it is your style, but it is a great rug!
Best thing that ever happened to me was being too busy in 2008 to pay attention to my portfolio.

If a close match is very important, get a white rug (or piece of carpet) and have it professionally dyed. Many carpet cleaning companies offer dyeing. If you already have a rug that's good quality and the right size, have it over-dyed.

Most any independent flooring retailer can have a rug made to your dimensions from broadloom (wall to wall) product. This will expand your selection choices.
