Travel / Airplane ticket insurance? Credit card?

Post by ThankYouJack » Thu Mar 14, 2019 1:32 pm

I have some summer trips coming up where I'll be spending about $6k on coach plane tickets and $1-2k on housing. Since I'm traveling with a young family, I would hate for something to come up and have to cancel or reschedule the trip. Is there any travel insurance that's worth it?

EDIT: Have you ever filed a trip insurance claim with your credit card company and how was the process?

Take a look at the Travel Insurance section of www.CruiseCritic.com

https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/4 ... insurance/

Also you might do well to call www.TripInsuranceStore.com

But do NOT rely upon the short online summaries; CALL them.
Those summaries cannot capture the fine print, which can matter.

Discuss your concerns, and they'll help you find a policy.
(There is no extra charge to purchase the coverage through them. And they can help with a claim, should there be one.)

We've had very good experiences with claims with Travel Insured, which we purchase through TIS.

Also look at what travel insurance benefits your credit cards offer. I generally charge my trips to my Chase Sapphire Reserve because of its benefits (and 3X on travel charges).

Thanks, it looks like my citi card covers up to $5,000 per trip due to sickness and other events. That would be enough coverage.

Has anyone ever filed a claim with a credit card company and how was the process?
