Finance Podcasts

Post by simple1 »

Just wondering if anybody knows of any good finance podcasts they listen to. I subscribe to "The Disciplined Investor" and "Vanguard: Plain Talk on Investing" through itunes. Anyone have anything else worth listening to?
Set it an forget it, well.... most of the time.

I listen to two public radio-based podcasts:

Marketplace from American Public Media
Planet Money from NPR

The first is a long-running entertaining daily business show for regular people. The second was created during / for the current credit crisis. It followed on the heels of this amazing explanation of the credit crisis aired on Chicago Public Radio's This American Life. (best and scariest hour you will spend)

A few more:
  • Roger Ibbotson on Lifetime Advice: Human Capital, Asset Allocation, and Insurance.
Zvi Bodie on The Next Generation of Life-Cycle Investment Products.
David Swensen on The Role of Alternative Assets in a Well-Diversified Portfolio.

This is an interesting biweekly show by these money managers. Although they don't ascribe to the Efficient Market Theory, I've been listening to them for about twenty years. They often have excellent market analysis, support a sound asset allocation and often are able to point out neglected sectors. Right now Randy is advocating TIPs.

I was going to say exactly that. I have been burning the This American Life episodes on the economy and couple of planet money on CDs for some people to really get the story on how we got to where we are and what are the instruments that were created that werent properly controlled.

I just added a Podcasts section to the Wiki. :D

If anybody has any more suggestions for that section, I hope they'll let me know.

As an aside, I discovered last night that Google Reader (RSS feed reader) works quite well with some pod casts (including Marketplace, Planet Money, CFA, WSJ). I don't use iTunes, so I can't make a direct comparison, but I think Google Reader is a great piece of software.

Thanks Dougroseville! Fixed. Such are the dangers of copy-n-paste for consistent formatting. ;)

Also added nitsuj's two suggestions.

It only works if you decide you want to leave that article open for as long as the podcast runs.
