Favorite youtube channels?

Post by TxAg » Sun Feb 17, 2019 7:36 pm

We don't have cable so I find myself watching a lot of online content when I'm not wrangling kids or reading.

What are some of your preferred youtube channels? I need some new content.

We have a thread about movies so this doesn't seem inappropriate here.

I listen to a lot of "live" concert music along with some old TV shows along with a variety of random stuff when the mood strikes.

Almazan Kitchen www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMBPd-z7d-I

He cooks over an open fire in the woods. In Serbia. Lots of sizzle, no talking, so turn on the captions.

Here's a good one to start - BEST.FILET.MIGNON.EVER! - feat. Mr.Ramsay The Owl

Hoovie's garage.

His business model is to lose around 60 grand a year on terrible car deals and to make it back by writing about it and making self-depreciating videos about it.

My Dish service allows me to stream YouTube videos directly onto my big screen TV at 4K (if that's what the video is in). Big plus is seeing video in crisp resolution on a large TV. Big minus is that Dish access alphabet screen is clumsy. Second big minus is that play, stop and pause are the only features available, so no fast forward or reverse.

I am not sure of the age group here, I am probably one of the younger being 25.

I really enjoy watching surfing "personalities" such as Brett Barley, Jamie Obrien, and Koa Rothman ("this is living"). I enjoy surfing when I have the option and it is amazing what these guys can do in the water.

I also enjoy watching woodworking such as Frank Howarth. He makes really good content and explains his process nicely.

My fiancé and I also enjoy watching the HiHo channel. It shows kids trying different food and drinks and their reactions are just hilarious.

Scott Manley is great! He genuinely loves the stuff. From what I've heard, he's an engineer at Apple. So his passion for rocketry and space is completely separate from his profession. I think that's cool.

As long as we're mentioning Scott Manley, another good one to watch is "Everyday Astronaut". A lot less formal than Scott, but still super fun to watch his rocket launch livecasts, as well as his other vids.

I've used YouTube to get into woodworking. It's amazing what is out there, how much I've learned, and how much it's encouraged me to build new things.

I've found a number of good channels over the past few years. I've subscribed to most and just watch when a video looks interesting.

Woodworking: (not necessarily in any order)
Stumpy Nubs (some of the most useful content, IMO)
Mike Farrington (some of the best videos)
April Wilkerson
Woodworkers Guild of America
Jay Bates
Jon Peters
Paul Sellers
The Wood Whisperer
Dan Pattison
THISisCarpentry
GuysWoodshop
Matthias Wandel
Izzy Swan
Make Something
Search "Simple Cabinet Construction with Gary Striegler". I've watched it several times, taught me a number of other good tricks.

Other home remodel/DIY
This Old House
HomeRenoVision
The Handyman
Finish Carpentry TV

Chess
thechesswebsite

Smoking (meat)
BBQ with Franklin
Traeger's channel

Car / technical-ish
Engineering Explained (car stuff)
Smarter Every Day
ChrisFix: some good car tips

Others:
Nat Geo Wild - my 3 and 5 yr-old boys are always curious what animal would win in a fight
NHL mic'd up fights - I don't know why, just cracks me up
America's Test Kitchen has some great tips for different things. I designed the cutting board I made off what they said the ideal dimensions were. My wife has been happy, so I guess it worked.
