AARP/UHC not offering Medigap plan G to new enrollees

Post by goshenBogle » Wed Jan 23, 2019 12:31 pm

Interesting that AARP/UHC is not offering plan G to new enrollees - those reaching age 65. I used the web site
https://www.medicare.gov/find-a-plan/qu ... -home.aspx

and tried zip codes from different places in the US to see if there were differences around the country. When you click on the medicare.gov link to look at the companies offering plan F, AARP/UHC appears in the list. BUT, click on the medicare.gov link to look at the companies offering plan G and AARP/UHC does NOT appear in the list.

Why does UHC not want new enrollees in plan G? Does this have anything to do with plan F not being offered after Dec 31, 2019? Something else?
Retired and loving it!!!!

UHC is not currently offering G in the Memphis area. Back in 2015 when I did a comparison of F and G supplements, UHC was offering F but not G. Their F premiums were much higher than other vendors, and I went with G anyway.

I entered zip 35701 and G was the first plan presented out of 10 Medicare Supplement plans.

I apologize for missing your point but please clarify what you are saying as using the link i provided shows that Plan G is available in Memphis for UHC AARP.

Do you believe that Plan G is being offered in Memphis now or or not? If not, please clarify why.

Once again sorry if I am misreading what you are saying.

I did say that UHC was not offering plan G in Memphis, at least not in my zip code. I just confirmed that again. However, I'm using this Medicare web site, that lists 30+ plan Gs but not UHC:
https://www.medicare.gov/find-a-plan/re ... x?ref=home

I see that the UHC web site, using your link, does list a Plan G. I would have though that the Medicare site was correct, and can't explain the discrepancy. I don't know which is correct.

Thanks for the clarification that you were not using the UHC site that I provided. That explains the disconnect. I am quite confident that UHC site is correct and that there is a breakdown in the information being provided to or displayed on the Medicare site.

Note that the OP posted the Medicare link, so maybe he has been similarly misinformed.

Edit: I just noticed that the UHC site lists their Plan G as "New Offering". That might explain why it isn't (yet) listed on the Medicare site.

I agree, that was the purpose of my sharing the link to the UHC site.

I'll be 65 next month, and I just signed up for a G supplement plan within the past month (Aetna). I spent a lot of time on the Medicare.gov site, and I was really disappointed in their accuracy in showing available medigap plans. In my area, they showed 18 companies offering a G plan, but UHC wasn't listed. It was only when I went to their website that I found out that they also offer that plan in my area. UHC is one of only a few companies that will give you a quote on plans through their site, without having to give out your personal information and then waiting for an agent to call you. I also found quite a few other companies offering a G plan that weren't listed on the Medicare site through our local SHIP site (called SHIINE in our state). They had a downloadable .pdf of plans and prices in our state, although it was for 2018. Using that resource, I was able to find a few other companies giving a quote online, but otherwise I had to just suck it up and wait for an agent to call. I found the whole process to be a lot harder than I thought it needed to be, especially compared to looking for an advantage plan. I called Medicare to ask why several companies offering a G plan weren't listed on their site, but they were less than helpful.
