Globus Journeys - tour group

Post by drzzzzz » Sun Oct 21, 2018 9:43 am

I have used Gate1travel for tours in the past and recently saw an interesting tour to Portugal by Globus Journeys - has anyone used this company for a tour and can you provide any feedback? thanks

No experience with the tour company (I pretty much do self travel or hire a private guide/driver if going to someplace like Egypt where the infrastructure isn't so good) but I loved Portugal when I was there this January (I prefer to hit Europe in the off season these days).

We went on a whirlwind trip to Europe back in 2004 with a similar company, Insight, who was perhaps a little higher end than Globus. It was fun, but we would never do it again. Eight countries in eleven days was insane. The pace was ridiculously fast, and in a place like Western Europe, we've learned that it's easy to get around on your own. We enjoy doing it at our pace, our way.

Have not used Globus but used Smartours for Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, South Africa, Kenya, and Tanzania. Used Grand European Tours for Ireland, Scotland, and Egypt. Used ChinaSpree for two three week trips through China, and Caravan Tours for Costa Rica. Would not hesitate to use them all again if we were still ground and bus touring. Have also cruised with and used American Cruise Lines, Holland America, Oceania, Fathom and Viking. If you want more on them PM me.

I have gone on escorted tours with Globus in the past with the last one 20 years ago.
They were known as Globus then not Globus Journeys.
I would definitely use them again.
Just lost interest in traveling.

If you are just interested in Portugal, I would take their 11-day Portugal In Depth.

I took a Europe wide tour with my teenagers and wife back in 1995ish with Globus. It was great but fast. It was 20 days for 8 countries as I recall. The tour included the bus and a English channel ferry and the hotels and many meals. The ride along tour guide was great. He was a English boarding school teacher in the winter and a tour guide in the summer. So he just knew a ton about Europe locations and sights. He was good about telling us all the things we saw. We never stood in lines as we got cut privileges at the Vatican and the Luv and the other places we visited. I would highly recommend them to anyone but especially those traveling with kids. But that was the plan for our tour. Other tours were targeted at older adults ans so forth.

Good Luck.

I took this exact tour last February. It was a great time at an unbelievable price.....think it was $1,500 (no single supplement) for 9 days with airfare from LAX. This was my second tour with them and they did a great job. Very well organized, nice bus, and excellent tour guide! Hotels were mainly three star, but respectable. Included meals were so so. Weather in Portugal was fair 50's/60's mostly sunny, but a couple rainy days.

I used Globus 10 years or so ago to book a tour thru Italy and Sicily for out family. It was good. No issues or complaints. I would say it is middle of the road as far as tour companies go. The price is modest and so are the hotels/restaurants that are provided.
