Well, it seems my day of reckoning has finally arrived: I've decided, at 56, to join the rest of the connected world and purchase my very first smartphone.

So after a cursory review at Consumer Reports, this appears to be a reasonable plan of action:
► Purchase a new unlocked Samsung S9+ phone with 128 GB memory from a big box store for <$800.
► Use a no-contract Consumer Cellular plan with 1GB data/mo. for $25/mo., with the option to bump up the data limit if I find myself needing more.
Do you see anything wrong with this plan? Are there any better/cheaper options that you would recommend? (Note that as long as I'm diving into the market at this advanced age, I want to start with a state-of-the-art phone. And now that my compact point-and-shoot digital camera has worn out, this would serve that purpose as well.) Would it be possible for me to use my landline phone number for this phone?

I'm really looking for a basic reality check. Do you see any big flaws?
Thanks for any advice you could offer this complete newbie.
