Men’s Underwear recommendation

Post by Rexindex » Wed Aug 15, 2018 4:24 pm

I’ve used both Landsend boxers and Nordstrom brand boxers. I found the Nordstrom brand to wear fairly well but they are expensive.

I’ve always liked Landsend but lately they seem to be getting thinner and thinner and tearing easily, although they are about 60% less than Nordstrom.

Does anyone have a recommendation for boxers that last? How about Brooks Brothers? They are not cheap either but if they last maybe I’ll consider them.

Who cares if boxer's last or not? I buy Haynes - I think like 7 pairs for some number of dollars on Amazon. They are comfortable and when they wear I throw them away and buy more. Its not like a suit or a dress shirt as no one sees 'em so who cares what they look like (maybe your lifestyle is different :)).

Really depends on what you're doing and what you like.

Stacy Adams-Thin, cool, and silky. Don't ride up, which is a problem I've had with a lot of different brands

ExOfficio-Also great at keeping you cool and dry extremely fast. Mine do seem to ride up if I buy them too big.

Duluth Bullpen-A little thicker than the other two but they keep everything sorted.

Duluth Bucknaked-Not as good as the Bullpen. Overpriced for what you get.

I got Saxx for my hubby and he won’t wear anything else now. I believe it was from a recommendation here that I found them so thanks to whoever that was!

So how do Saxx feel? I like underarrmor because of the compression. Are these compression?

I like the Kirkland briefs with no advertising: https://www.costco.com/Kirkland-Signatu ... 23810.html

For sleeping in the summer, I just bought (and like) boxers I recently bought on Amazon. They're 100% cotton, not thin, hold up to washing, and are very inexpensive: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BTHFBYW

DH got some Bjorn Borg (boxer/briefs?) when we were in Norway.

He finds them so comfortable that he bought more when we got home.
(Easily available online.)

They are *very* soft cotton, and I'm not quite sure what to call the style/cut.
(Don't mistake the similar style workout shorts. Those are totally different fabric, from the website, and probably also fit very differently.)

I can also say that they are very attractive.

They have a bunch of different styles. The kinetic style is their compression version. I have a few pairs of kinetic boxer briefs for working out or just regular use. They have a wider waistband and while still comfortable, not as comfortable as some of their other styles.

The platinum style boxer brief is super soft and probably my favorite. I also have some vibe boxer briefs, kinetic running shorts, lounge pants and even a swim suit.

That's funny, I bought some underwear when we were in Australia and they were the best I have ever had. Haven't found them here yet. :happy

I guess DH was lucky.
And he was also lucky in the sense of "just grabbing something" at a little local shop in Bergen, and it turned out they became a favorite.

When he found them online, he only ordered one package, because we weren't at all sure it would "really" be the same thing, especially that nice cotton fabric.

But it was, so he ordered more.

Tommy John's are the best I've found.

At $30+ a pair, it's not very Boglehead'ish, but can you really put a price on the comfort of of your nest-eggs?

I am a big fan of Mack Weldon boxer briefs. They are more expensive, but far more comfortable. I used to buy Hanes and they outlast them 4 or 5 to 1.

Another vote for Saxx. However I like 2undr even more! They are expensive but for me it's worth it. There are many brands out now that implement a "3d pouch" so I'm sure there are more affordable options now but the materials and designs used in the higher end options are really nice.

ExOfficio are top of the line. I have several and they are my go to when going on any vacation or trip.

I have a lot of Terramar. They breathe well, and the waistband hold up better than Under Armor.

Hard to find company that make tradition boxers. Boxer briefs being the trend.

After years of exclusively using 100% cotton or cotton/polyester blends, I've discovered the superiority of 100% synthetic. Try it, you might like it...

Snarkynomad.com has an excellent review and comparison of men's travel underwear. I've found Saxx Quest 2.0 boxer briefs the best for every day wear based upon his recommendation.

I buy all Calvin Klein but not in boxers. The long briefs (I think it's what you call them) I don't like my junk swinging around in boxers.

Fruit of the Loom. Mr. Buffett probably wears them too since he purchased the company in 2002.

Old Navy / Gap. Cheap and last a decent while. Waistband elastic usually stretches out after a couple years.

Out of curiosity, anyone knows where can purchase briefs for waist size of 30-32?

Years ago, I was able to buy briefs of that waist size with no problem. Seems like almost all the brands now cover 28-30 and 32-34, but 30-32 gets nothing. The ones I bought from Amazon fit a bit too much like a size 30.

Tommy Johns are indeed great! You can always check at nordstrom for sales, or nordstrom rack. I have also heard of advertisements that offer 20% off an order though their website. Some of the best underwear available.

It was for me also, until I discovered a 60% Rayon 40% Polyester blend. Hanes Comfortblend. Available via Amazon. I bought this by mistake a few months ago, but ended up liking it more than cotton.

This is the kind of thread that makes me weep for mankind....how can anyone honestly need recommendations on freaking underwear? Have we become that un self reliant?

Sigh...ex officio's are really good.

Edit - I completely blame the internet for this ... can you imagine a guy going up to another guy in real life and asking him what kind of underwear he wears? The reason there is a stigma for certain kinds of behavior is that there SHOULD BE one.

fruit of loom boxer briefs is just fine for me. Really like the cool tech ones... light weight breathable, do not ride up at all or imprint into skin. I've been tempted to try those super fancy brands just to see what the fuss is all about but the idea of paying that huge premium for just one pair stops me.

Get off my yard!

There has been a lot of changes and advancement in materials used over the last decade. I appreciate these threads as it is a way to become exposed to brands that you probably otherwise would never know about. And why on earth should there be a stigma associated with talking about what kind of freaking boxers one likes? Are you really that uptight in real life?

Edit: I already ordered a pair of Saxx to try out, just because of this thread.

Then I discovered bamboo. There is no going back.

Check out a brand called Cariloha.
