Dublin, Where to stay?

Post by 80lady » Sat Aug 11, 2018 2:40 pm

First time poster here and a grateful long-time reader.
My husband is heading to Ireland in 2 weeks and will have one night in Dublin. He has been there before and is trying to decide where to stay within walking distance to some shopping and pubs.
Any recommendations for specific hotels or airbnb would be appreciated.

We are also looking for any recommendations for seafood restaurants in Dublin, Derry or Sligo. Thank you!

Not sure if the dates will work but as a Books of Kells fan for years I always thought it would be fun to actually stay at Trinity College. Timing worked our for me a few years ago and it was fun (and very reasonable). I see that you can also use their state-of-the-art sports centre, if you want some exercise. Everything is close by.

The Dawson Hotel is located just north of St Stephen's Green. It is located within walking distance of Grafton St, Trinity College, Temple Bar, pubs and more. Google maps will show more.

Fish n Chips - Beshoffs or Leo Burdocks is pretty good.

Stay on south side of the river near Trinity College and Grafton Street. Depends upon your budget like everything. The Shelbourne is probably one of the nicest if you have some money to splash. Lots of nice pubs including:
- Doheny and Nesbits :thumbsup
- Long Hall
- Toners
- The Bailey
- Bewleys for morning coffee

Best hotel hands down in Dublin is The Merrion. Close to Stephens' Green, Grafton Street and the rest. Gracious service, large, (by Dublin standards) immaculate rooms, old world charm but all the contemporary conveniences.

I made the mistake of staying somewhere else this summer to save a bit of money and it was not worth it.

I used to travel to Dublin a lot and have stayed in The Merrion (many times), The Fitzwilliam and The Westbury. Of those, my favourite was The Westbury, then The Merrion.

We were in Dublin for a conference and stayed at The Marker Hote. It was a very nice, contemporary luxury hotel surrounded by all kinds of nice shops and restaurants.

I am in Dublin 5x per year 10 days each time. Always stay at the Morrison (Hilton doubletree)
A man with one watch always knows what time it is; a man with two watches is never sure.

I love this hotel! Although for the past year or so the rates have started to go up and it can be a bit expensive. If it within your budget, I would also recommend this hotel.

Another less expensive option would be the Paramount hotel. I would also stay there sometimes when I travelled to Dublin for work. It is close to the Temple Bar area so can be a bit noisy but its a great location for the pubs, etc. The noise never bothered me and it was easy to walk around. This hotel is also good value for money.

Good luck with your search!

I was in Dublin a couple of months ago and we stayed at the Westbury. We liked it and it was conveniently located within walking distance of everything we wanted to see/do in Dublin.
