Now that DW and I are settling into Texas I'll need to change out Part D plans. I know we're eligible for a special enrollment period (moved out of old plan's service areas), and I know the companies (Aetna and Humana) have identical plans in TX as our current ones in MI. The only difference is the plan number.
My question is about the mechanics of making the change. Can I just call Aetna and Humana directly and have them do it, or do I have to go through Medicare? If through Medicare do I have to process address changes first, and then go through the MyMedicare plan finder?
I'm sure some of the older coots like me know the answer.
Thanks.

Re: Changing Medicare Part D Plan
I am pretty sure you do it all through the insurer. My experience: I moved from California to Florida last year. I was on a Humana part D plan. I checked the medicare website and it showed that Humana had the same plan in Florida. So after I moved I called Humana about changing my address. Turned out that even though it looked like the same plan, Humana Florida was somehow a different entity than Humana California, or something like that. So I had to re-enroll, kind of, but they walked me through the paperwork, no problems. I don't remember involving Medicare at all.
