Cheapest way to subscribe to the NY Times

Post by retire14 » Sat Apr 28, 2018 8:45 am

I am in Virginia and would like to subscribe to the NY Times. I prefer a physical copy plus a digital version. What is the cheapest way to get it? TIA

They offer reduced academic rates, but they do verify. I had to send them a copy of my faculty ID card. They’re currently offering a pretty good introductory rate for 12 months on all their plans. I’m fine with just the lower cost digital access.

Getting a physical newspaper is going to drive the cost way up. It would actually be cheaper to get the 12 month all digital deal, then buy an iPad to read it on.

My library offers free digital access anywhere (just log in with library card). Physical access would require driving to the library. :-)

As a teacher I get a very reduced rate. I had to subscribe using my school email address. But that's for the digital only. I would not want that much volume of paper flowing into my house.

The NYT frequently offers 1/2 price for digital for a year, $7.50/month. Follow them on Twitter and you'll probably see it. Or just call and ask.

+1 NYT, WSJ, FT, WP, Economist all have academic discounts for digital subscriptions. The Guardian has low-cost access for all. These are my go-to sources of quality journalism; I’ve subscribed to all them over the years, and subscribe to several at any one time.

I won’t go as far as my beloved college professor who said that every educated person should read the entire NYT every day, but I do believe that reading — and supporting — quality journalism is important.

Andy.

Our local newspaper every day has several pages of NY Times articles.
