Best places to find discontinued appliance parts?

Post by URSnshn »

Do you have any suggestions to find either an original or a replacement GE stove oven rack?

The oven that came with this house works well, but is missing the oven rack. The part is discontinued. I was hoping to still be able to find it or find a replacement. I know I can look at E-Bay, etc., as well as check do some online research - so far nothing comes up. I've also checked some local and online resources. Sears came up with a replacement, but in checking further I realize the dimensions are well off the mark.

Any suggestions?

Look for used appliance stores, typically in an area with a lot of mid to lower income rentals. For best results they should have a bunch of washers, dryers and stoves stacked up in back or around the side of the building.

Where are you located? Someone may be able to give local advice if we know.

Oven racks are somewhat interchangeable. I would visit a used appliance store and buy a few in the hopes one will fit. That's what I did when I needed a rack. The store owner just gave it to me for free since he had a huge pile of them...

If you can figure out the GE part number you can google that part number and you you may be able to find it.

You may be able to find a PDF of the owners manual on the internet by Googling the model number, the part number may be in the manual.

Stoves are cheap and work forever. I would go to a used appliance store. If they don’t have the right rack, just get another stove that has all its parts. Life is too short to spend it on a quest for the perfect discontinued oven rack.

If there is a metalworking / welding shop in your town, they might be able to either rework a "too big" rack or build one from scratch. This would likely be more expensive than if you can find the right size at an appliance store or online, but this is something to consider if you can't find a match at an appliance store or online.

I second this site. They had the parts I needed and good instructions on how to replace the parts in the past.

I don't know if this is the best place, but I did buy a new oven element for my old Tappan range at https://www.partselect.com/

I sometimes try my luck at Google using the model number of the appliance or whatever part numbers I can find in the manual.

These guys usually have pretty good prices: https://www.lunaparts.com/ Free standard shipping (usually shipping kills the deal).
I've purchased a lower dishwasher rack and cloths dryer timer from them. If you get on their mailing list they will occasionally send out 15% off coupon codes.

A third + on repair clinic. See if you can find a pdf of the owner manual online based on the model number and get a part number.
