Budget gaming laptop recommendation?

Post by Houston101 » Mon Feb 26, 2018 6:30 pm

Anyone here who has purchased a gaming laptop recently,,would you mind sharing what you purchased and why? I like playing FPS shooter games like Arma, Battlefield etc. I would prefer to stay below $1K but I am not sure of what is a reasonable for decent laptop (think Toyota Camry).

I see there are lots of articles online covering a very wide range but have no idea of what is actually reasonable.

Problem #1 is that laptops are not really ideal for gaming. Gaming CPUs/GPUs require a higher TDP than most laptop form factors are practical for. That said, some manufacturers do market certain laptops as "gaming", but they're probably on par with a mediocre PC.

And $1k isn't going to buy even a medium true gaming PC, let alone a laptop, of which, the laptop form factor will come at a premium.

Asus ROG laptops are OK. But you're going to be over $1k easily.

I'm no gaming expert, but just helped my son build a gaming PC and I think they're superior to what you can get on a laptop (plus expansion/upgrade room). That being said a good friend recently bought an Alienware laptop and has had nothing but good things to say about it.

My name is culray and I play a lot of CSGO, BF4, PUBG, RL, and Overwatch!

I currently am running an Acer Aspire V Nitro VN7-571g-7561. It's pretty "budget" if you ask me, it retailed around $1000. It ran Overwatch around 60fps on low-medium, CSGO 1024x768 at around 100fps on lowest settings and around 50 on BF4 on medium. If you can afford it, I would definitely opt for a desktop because you can get a lot more performance for your money. I actually use a gaming desktop when I have the time to play games so my Acer is just used as a school laptop now. I'm definitely trying to downgrade to smaller laptop though because this 15.6in laptop isn't light!
