Smartphone or Similar Device Just for Pandora Music?

Post by dwade1109 » Tue Feb 13, 2018 10:53 am

My cousin is autistic and one of the things he greatly enjoys is going for walks or bike rides while listening to streaming pandora music on his iPhone 5 (my old one I donated to him). He has unlimited data through his family plan so that is not an issue. The phone is now dead. He does not really use a cell phone for anything else, so besides shelling out $349 for a new iphone SE (the cheapest new iphone on the market) what are cost-effective alternatives (phones or devices that can stream using data) to substitute for Pandora streaming on the go?

Have you tried craigslist? You can find used phones pretty cheap depending on what version you are looking for. No need to buy a new one just for music.

If the 5 has a battery issue, they are relatively easy to replace as well.

Define "steam data". Can it be wi-fi or does it have to have a wireless plan?

iTouch, Kindle Fire, etc. are all examples of cheap tablet that use wi-fi only.

Just spend under $100 and buy a used iPhone 5s.

You could save a few pennies and get a used 5 or splurge and spend a little over $100 to get a used SE. The latter is generally a good idea, but given your limited needs, seems unnecessary, so you'll have to decide.

FWIW, Android phones run Pandora (and many other apps) just fine.
