Besides Bogleheads, What Are Your Favorite Forums?
Bogleheads has an amazing breadth and depth of knowledge (and not just about investing) from it's posters. What other forums do you find similar passion and expertise? A few that I enjoy: fliertalk.com (travel, points, hotels, etc.) and avsforum.com (all things audio visual).

Politicalforums: hate to argue with friends/family about politics. They get offended easily if you disagree.

Thanks for posting this. I am glad to see something like this exists. I had been thinking of creating a similar forum myself to encourage civil discourse between the various polarized camps. How has your experience been over there? Have you seen reasoned arguments swaying members of one side to the other, or changes in viewpoints, moderation of previously held views, etc. ? Seems like it would be too hard to not have such a forum mostly become a place for ranting.

For investing, I like the Bogleheads as the best!
I do click on the Morningstar Bogleheads Unite and Morningstar Vanguard Funds. However, both of those forums have barely any activity or posts. I am curious if Morningstar will continue to host both of these forums.

Is the Bogle Financial Markets Research Center website no longer updated? Many of the speeches and books appear to be from prior years.

No Facebook account, No Twitter account, No LinkedIn account, I check our sister forum at Morningstar but seems to be dormant, plus from time to time I check forums on my sports (long distance running, long distance walking). All the good activity is right here, but from time to time I take a sabbaticus from this forum too. Good luck, and thanks for reading ~cfs~

The only other forum I ever spent significant time on shut down about four years ago, since then this is where I spend the majority of my online time.
Re: Besides Bogleheads, What Are Your Favorite Forums?
So far, this is it. This forum is unique in it's knowledge and generosity. Though Lifehacker is a trusted source. And there is a bias towards equities. Tried Bigger Pockets for RE but found more harm than good. Would love ones on mindfulness, psychology and relationships

+2 I love letsrun.com, but it's sensibility is pretty much the exact opposite of bogleheads.org. Almost no moderation.
As a San Antonio Spurs fan, I sometimes visit spurstalk.com. I used to visit a lot more, but moderation has practically disappeared and the forum gets pretty crude.
And I visit forumfr.com for some French, both serious and silly. Je suis le ricain du forum.
Re: Besides Bogleheads, What Are Your Favorite Forums?
There are some good discussions. Some of the members have very well thought out threads.bligh wrote: ↑Mon Jan 15, 2018 5:04 pmThanks for posting this. I am glad to see something like this exists. It seems the most vocal people are far left/right but there are plenty of moderates there too.

Ironically the best forums are ones where eternal September has not occurred, and the members know better than to loudly sing the forum's praises. Therefore, I will not share any of the groups that I frequent, for you should view with suspicion any such suggestion you receive.

Here are two suggestions:
For Health, fitness, and bodybuilding: http://scoobysworkshop.com
Lots of videos and interactive stuff. All n/c.
Although I don’t spend much time there anymore (because I now have at least 10 correspondents around the world), I also like: http://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/
Writing with a fountain pen is retro, cathartic, and wonderfully enjoyable.
But of course there is no forum that compares to the Bogleheads forum. It is a unique community, and I’m happy to be a part of it.

I have been into fountain pens for a little over a year but haven't frequented those forums for live discussion, just research on inks and pens. Agreed fully on the allure of fountain pens. It is actually a joy to write now.

I only visit one other forum and it has nothing to do with money.
It is the Disboards and it has everything you need to know about planning Disney vacations and what's new at the Disney resorts.
Other than following the investing strategy of John Bogle, my other passion is going to Disney world every year or when I can.

We used to have pass's to Disney before the college years came about. I'm hopeful when my wife retires we can get them back. Right now time is the issue. I really miss it.stemikger wrote: ↑Tue Jan 16, 2018 5:52 am I only visit one other forum and it has nothing to do with money.

Re: Besides Bogleheads, What Are Your Favorite Forums?
Thanks KSOC. It was the same for us. My daughter recently graduated with her Master degree and due to paying her tuition in full we didn't do Disney like we used to. This August we are taking her and a friend to Pop Century (seperate rooms of course) for 12 full days. February 1st we start making our dining reservations. Yes I did hear of those sites you mentioned. We take other types of vacations, but nothing satisfies us like Disney.KSOC wrote: ↑Tue Jan 16, 2018 6:11 amWe used to have pass's to Disney before the college years came about. Re: Besides Bogleheads, What Are Your Favorite Forums?
I gotta admit - I like the BH forum, but I also know full well I'm only going to get the 'MAINstream' viewpoint on anything here, and one that's nearly as risk-averse as possible. To me, that almost takes away the whole point of a forum, which is where you might go to get a niche or very specialized perspective on something (like a super-risky investment that the mainstream would shun, or some high-risk activity that is similarly shunned by the mainstream.)
I still subscribe to the BH philosophy of investing, but that's because I'm admittedly a very, very risk-averse investor (even though I wish I wasn't).
For anything else, I haven't found much value in the BH forums (sorry BHs!) - it's entirely predictable what the crowd will come up with here.
I vividly recall one example where I asked for the general wisdom about turning your HSA into a triple-tax-advantaged vehicle in the early days of HSAs, and I got zero good answers, but a lot of quasijudgmental ones about why I would do such a thing. Next thing I know though, not too much longer, many investor 'experts' (I think whitecoatinvestor as well) are saying HSAs are EXACTLY that - a triple advantaged investment vehicle that has no equal in terms of tax advantages. Wasn't too hard for me to see this right off the bat, but exactly zero BHers even remotely agreed with me until wayyyy after the fact. Unfortunately, this wasn't a surprise to me as well given the highly risk averse nature of the typical BHer.
Despite this critique, I'd venture that judging from my investment and life decisions, I'm probably closer to the prototypical BHer than the so-called 'average' one here, except for my age! (I'm likely younger, I'm guessing.)
