Re: Price of haircut?
Where do you live?
Is it a major VHCOL metropolitan area, "downtown"?
Or a small town, LCOLA?
That would probably make a huge difference.
Also, is it "just a haircut", or is there styling, blow drying...?

Re: Price of haircut?
I get a buzzcut every month in a HCOL area. #2 on top, fade to #1.5 on sides/back. Straight-razor shave of sideburns/edges with shaving cream.
Old school barber shop in HCOL trendy strip mall = $21 for haircut +$5 tip
Closer to my work is LCOL barbershop = $14 + $6 tip = $20 (chintzy to ask for change from a $20).
My swanky gym has men's cuts for $40+$10 tip = $50.
BUT 11yo daughter can do almost as good a job, and I've started to let her do it every 2 weeks. Let's face it, it's pretty brainless to work a 1.5 or 2 razor with those guards, and she's getting better at fading. I work in the OR all day and wear a scrub cap, and have a pretty casual lifestyle outside work.
So $50 x 26 = $1300 into her Roth IRA every year.

Re: Price of haircut?
$12 on Tuesdays. I don't want to tip but feel social pressure to do so. $2 tip. Sometimes no tip. Only every three months or so.

Re: Price of haircut?
$12 + $4 tip at Great Clips every ~3 months. I may go earlier than that if there's an upcoming event and/or DW tells me to get a haircut.
Re: Price of haircut?
Wow! That must be one heck of a haircut!!
I pay $25 plus tip for a cut, straight razor shave, shampoo, and shoulder massage.

Re: Price of haircut?
Does it include the hairdye?
Re: Price of haircut?
No man should pay over $15 for a haircut.
We have no hair compared to women!
I use great clips. $13 + ($2-$3 tip)
They also send coupons in the mail every few months for $7 cut.

+1
Mine is getting pretty good at it too!
Re: Price of haircut?
Ditto
Urban Los Angeles
I could get a haircut for $8 including tip if I wanted a military cut.
At $20 that works out to $40-60 an hour, or $24-36 per hour net if the shop takes half the base. That's not a terrible wage. I'm guessing the $8 cut takes five minutes or less. Been going many years. All the barbers at my shop are happy and competent if not talented.

Re: Price of haircut?
Same. She's cut my hair probably an average of 8 times per year for the past 9 years. On the rare occasion schedules don't work and I need to get it cut professionally, I go to a local cheap place for ~$18 (includes tip). So, 8*9*$18 = $1080 worth of cuts. We're on the second set of trimmers for something like $60, so I figure we've saved close to $960 by having my wife cut my hair.

I auto pay $30 a month for "unlimited" cuts.
I go twice a month and service includes shaving my head and neck, shampoo and a roughly 10 minute scalp massage. I tip $5 each time.

Re: Price of haircut?
I cut it myself with a $20 set of clippers I've had for years.

Re: Price of haircut?
used to pay $10-$15 with a tip. couple of years back went close crop and maintained that since with the help of at first a regular Norelco shaver with pop up trimmer and now graduated to a Braun shaver. Also aided by natural thinning (wife calls it going bald). Cost, shaver blade units $30-$40 replaced every 2-3 years.

Re: Price of haircut?
$7 plus $2 tip Yep, that's all the ole barber or his grandson charge. There are several barbers in this town charging under $7 to $9. Even Great Clips sometimes charge $7.

Re: Price of haircut?
My wife learned to cut my hair shortly after we were married. The electric trimmers and special hair shearers cost $50. After 5 years of marriage, that is about $10/year. With 8 cuts a year, that is about $1.25/cut so far. Plus the added conveniencetotesmagotes wrote: ↑Thu Nov 30, 2017 9:23 pmSame. I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today.

Awesome arrangement. I never heard of a haircut subscription (and with grooming/extras too!). I'm envious.Charlesmetz83 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 30, 2017 9:28 pm I auto pay $30 a month for "unlimited" cuts.

You learn something new every day it seems on Bogleheads.
Someone mentioned a car-wash subscription on another forum (it was in Florida) and I thought that was awesome too.
I use Supercuts with a $10-$15 tip.

Re: Price of haircut?
I paid $18 with tip 12 years ago ,Barberess was V hot. Have A LOT of hair and it got pricey so I cut it myself now .
Re: Price of haircut?
Same. You can do the same length all over easily, and I have a medicine cabinet mirror that folds out so I can see all sides of my head and do a 2/1.5 or 2/1 fade. I got sick of going to female oriented places that charged too much and always missed spots or had other things I had to fix. Pretty bad to pay for a bad hair cut. My ~$20 clippers from Walmart last 4+ years minimum.
Re: Price of haircut?
I pay $20 ($13 + $7 tip).
Old school non-trendy barber shop in VHCOL area.
I wouldn't trust the guy to "style" anything, but its fine if you are just looking for a generic men's cut.

Re: Price of haircut?
DD used to cut it for "free", but free usually involved a 200 mile drive and lunch for four. She is now working at a higher end place which is closer so I "only" pay about $30 and only a 100 mile drive.

Re: Price of haircut?
$80 plus $20 tip. I’m a woman and only get it cut every 3-4 months. Bang Trims in between are free.
Re: Price of haircut?
I'm 37. Still go to the same barber that gave me my first haircut 35 years ago. $20 plus $4 or $5 tip. MCOL midwest city.

Wife cuts my hair. I've paid for 2 haircuts in the last 23 years.
Re: Price of haircut?
I go to great clips, 15+ $5 tip. I always have mixed reviews and debate going to the ‘nice’ place down the street. I believe it’s $50 + tip.

MCOL Area. I know a hairdresser who is a good friend. She charges me $25 and I throw in a $10 tip. Given my accelerating hair loss, I am thinking of asking her for a Marine Corps recruit buzzcut.

this is interesting. So all her earnings for cutting your hair goes in her Roth IRA. This is all legit? No audit issues with the IRS?
How do you document her earnings?
thanks
