Iphone 7 - locked out
Iphone 7 - locked out
So my mom gave her Iphone to my son who changed the password and then forgot it (grandma is a push over, we never give our kids phones, etc). Anyway I've been trying to wipe it and restore IOS 11. I rarely use Apple products and now I know why. What a pain, the Itunes software is pathetic. Constantly giving me error messages, even after installing the huge file on three different computers. Then it kicks off the network after it has downloaded about a gig out of 2.5 gigs of IOS...what's' worse is that it doesn't even resume where it left off. Tried this many times over the past few days over 3 different computers and networks. The information Apple gives online is useless (of course). I have resorted to turning off the firewall and all antivirus software to do the IOS update (I'm repurposing my Surface computer so I'll be wiping it when this is done). I might have to try to manually update the software, but I'm sure it will run into issues. I might just take it to the Apple store and say you guys deal with it, it's not worth my time.
Has anyone tried to restore or wipe their iPhone after being locked out? This is pathetic. I'm trying it again this morning, it's downloaded 350megs so far and I'm sure it will kick out the network soon with some stupid error message (yes I've Googled all error messages with no help).

Grasshopper's head is not in the Zen space of Apple products! If the recovery methods in the support article (If you forgot the passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled) don't work for you, contact Apple Support or take the phone to a tech at an Apple store.

Good to know if my phone is stolen thieves will have a hard time reselling.
Re: Iphone 7 - locked out
Do you live in a big city with Apple stores? If so, just make an appointment and have them fix it.
Re: Iphone 7 - locked out
Just tried it again, gets to 754megs and then craps out. What a POS. It's not about thieves recovering, I know my moms Apple ID, it's about the extremely buggy and POS software. Apple is no better than MSFT. I've already wasted five hours of my life, I'll drop this off at Apple and tell them to deal with it. How sad.

What are you talking about? 754 megs of what?squirm wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2017 12:18 pmJust tried it again, gets to 754megs and then craps out. What a POS. POS? No. I've had one for years. IPhone 5.
Re: Iphone 7 - locked out
I haven't had to deal with iTunes in years. I've always hated that program. Too bad your mom didn't have an iCloud backup that you could restore from.
Re: Iphone 7 - locked out
Itunes is suppose to download IOS 11. It's 2.5 gigs, it got to 754 megs and then craps out with an error message, tried on 3 computers. Yes, a POS. Heck, I was able to put Windows 10 mobile on my old Windows 8 phone without any errors.Dottie57 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2017 12:22 pmWhat are you talking about? 754 megs of what?squirm wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2017 12:18 pmJust tried it again, gets to 754megs and then craps out. What does the error message say?
Edit: Also, if find my iPhone was turned on and the passcode is forgotten, you’re not going to be able to wipe the iPhone and reinstall- the installation will require the passcode. That’s a security feature, so that stolen iphones are worth much less.

Go to Apple Store or call support.
Check to see how much storage is already used on the phone.
Re: Iphone 7 - locked out
How old is your son? If he's older than say 10-12, make him hassle with this for a while, then make him go with you to the Apple store. It will teach him to be responsible for other people's devices and, who knows, a fresh set of eyes might find something you didn't. If he's younger though, there's not much point to involving him at this stage.
Re: Iphone 7 - locked out
Well, if anyone wants to know, I took the phone to a friends place who has fiber. It downloaded the files in less than 5 minutes, finished the firmware updates and finally set the phone back to factory. Still had some iTunes errors after the process, but the phone finished fine. Another reason why I wouldn't recommend Apple to my friends, but that's just me. Now to unload all the itunes files and all those associated files....yuck.
Re: Iphone 7 - locked out
The one who did this is 11, he's not allowed to use gadgets at when at our home. Even Steve Jobs, I believe had a rule that all phones and gadgets are to be put away when at home...maybe that was just for his kids...I dunno.Mudpuppy wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2017 1:55 pmHow old is your son?
