Just came across this new law in Massachusetts, which is especially notable given the recent stories about elders being moved/having assets taken/etc., without notifying anyone, etc.
http://states.aarp.org/care-act-becomes ... aregivers/
From the summary in the email notification about this:
- Patients may designate a caregiver, whose name and contact information will be recorded by hospital personnel.
- Caregivers must be notified in advance of a patient's transfer to another facility or discharge.
- Medical tasks to be provided at home must be demonstrated by the hospital staff to the caregiver.
Hopefully statutes like this will help prevent some of the abuses recently discussed, such as those in Nevada.
I'm not sure if it pertains only to hospitals, or if nursing homes/assisted living facilities would be covered as well.
(I'm not sure how much something like this would help in those egregious situations where "social workers" were in cahoots with attorneys and even a judge, however...)
