Deals on Halloween Candy

Post by C4NT » Sat Oct 14, 2017 6:07 am

Time to go buy some candy. My neighborhood has been steadily increasing in number of kids, which I like. So, I want to put a little more thought into where I buy candy this year - it can get expensive.

So, in your opinion where are the best places to buy candy? Any particular type that is a little bit cheaper?

Thanks, and Happy Halloween!

Visit Slickdeals, put in an alert for Candy, grab one of the great Amazon deals they have been doing.

Agreed. I bought 4 giant bags of Air Heads for half the price of the stores not too long ago thanks to SD. If you want to get a lot of candy, avoid chocolate. It gets expensive. If you want put in an alert on SD, near it down to actual brand names (like Air Heads, Kit-Kat, Starburst, etc) due to the way people title their deals. You could also put in an extra alert for Halloween candy.

You can pick up 2-3 giant bags at CostCo for $25. I buy mostly chocolates because I loathed getting sugar candies or pencils or _toothbrushes_ :annoyed ) as a child. (Some of the 150 kids last year were on their 2nd circuit of the neighborhood. Or just confused about which streets they'd been down.)

I LOVE Halloween, so I am all about getting the full size for the kids. I like being "that house" and I'm willing to spend a little more on it. BJs offers 30 packs of full size for $19 and then usually they run a coupon around this time on them, so I load up with about 120-150 pcs. They also have the bags of minis as well, again usually with coupons.

I would imagine Costco and Sam's have similar offerings.

Now that my kids are grown and I don't have to spend money on costumes but don't get their joy at Halloween either. So I've become the old lady who gives the best Halloween candy. I get about 75-125 trick or treaters ( depending on weather) I give out full sized chocolate bars. Heshey, Milky Way, Snickers, Reece's PB cups. Etc. plus a light up toy. I get the candy at Costco and the toys at Oriental Trading Co. The excitement and joy on the kids faces is so awesome. This isn't everybody jam but for me it's priceless and money well spent.

I buy the "fun-sized" bars[1]. I don't get many kids these days, but I eat them myself (I allow two per day) and they keep pretty well as long as they are exposed to heat. I just buy the sales at the supermarket or Walgreens with coupons. I a $2/3 on bags coupon for Mars and Nestle that I used at the supermarket last week when they had the 11oz bags for 1.99. So I already have six, and will get more later.

1. No, not lemon-drops.
This week's fortune cookie: "Your financial life will be secure and beneficial." So I got that going for me, which is nice.

My wife stocks up on "sugar candy" after Halloween for the following year. Since it is just corn syrup, food coloring, and artificial favor, it's dated a couple of years out. We keep it in a cool, dry place and we save 75-90% with clearance pricing. I happen to think that kind of candy is disgusting, but the neighborhood kids always love it.

Walgreens usually has some good deals when you buy a few bags at once.

Have noticed the 'fun size' versus the little 'square ones' (bite size?) - you usually get 1-2 more oz of candy per bag with the little tiny square ones.

The day after halloween when it's half price! The stuff stays half way edible a year later. ;)

Seriously tho, We live in a condo so we just get a small bag of M&M mini bags from any place that has them on sale.

Here's a tip: Buy the big bags of red & green M&Ms after Christmas when they are half price. Then pour them in a baking pan or similar and separate the red & green ones with a spoon. Use the red ones for Saint Valentine's Day and the green ones for Saint Patrick's Day.
