Santader bank refusing to pay
I don't know if I'm the only one having this issue but I signed up for Santader for a checking account bonus 4 months ago and still did not receive any money.
I met all the requirement within 90 days and then 30 more days to receive and did not. Called customer service and to say it in the nicest way possible, they were pretty much garbage. They said I didn't put in the code; therefore, I will not be getting the bonus (I sign up for these extremely carefully and I did put the code in).
Extremely frustrating and they didn't offer me any options to get the bonus even though it is an error on their part. I'm not sure if there are any other options that I could take to receive it. Has anyone had the same issue and come to any resolution? Customer service line was no help and they seem to just repeat the same thing.

If you don't have any proof that you submitted the code, the best option might be to go to a branch and talk to the manager face to face.

I had a very negative experience with Santander when a CD matured. I could NOT get them to give me the money even after the maturity date. Days went by and one excuse after another. Have to wait at least 24 hours after maturity for it to post, now it is the weekend - so Monday, on Monday it was another few days. On Monday I looked up the fact that Santander is N.A. and the Comptroller of the Currency is in charge. They have a website for complaints. On that Monday I filled out the form and told them that if my money was not transferred from the CD to checking by NOON, I was pushing the send button to Comptroller's complaint website. I had the money by 11.

Vote with your feet and look for the next bonus. If you have proof you put the code in, you can try to escalate. You could do as the poster above and make a formal complaint.

Unfortunately, I live in FL and they do not have a branch here.Pajamas wrote:If you don't have any proof that you submitted the code, the best option might be to go to a branch and talk to the manager face to face.
Like I mentioned, I'm extremely careful in clicking the right links, putting in the proper code, reading all the little terms and conditions, etc etc... I have done this many times with other banks also. I don't have any "proof" though. I guess I could've taken a screenshot but then again, that can just be imitated after the fact so not sure if that does much good.
It is just very frustrating when they basically tell you there is nothing that they can do even though error is on their part. Their customer service sucks too. I'm just venting.. Maybe I will just let it go and simply never use them. Probably not be worth my time to ruin the mood.
Re: Santader bank refusing to pay
Did you not get some kind of confirmation email when you signed up for the bonus? I get one just for signing up for the quarterly enhanced rewards on my credit card. I would be surprised if you did not.
Find out if they send one and if so, make sure that you did not get it. If they do send one and you never got it, it is very possible that something went wrong and you didn't actually sign up for the bonus successfully. If so, it may or may not be due to something you did, and you may never know which it is.
I do tend to fight battles like this on the principle of the thing if not for the money, but sometimes it is a losing battle and you have to save your resources for a battle that you can win.

You'd be surprised how effective a screen shot is when this happens. Emailing the web window (with URL) has worked for me more than once.workingovertime wrote:Like I mentioned, I'm extremely careful in clicking the right links, putting in the proper code, reading all the little terms and conditions, etc etc... By the time you know enough to choose a good financial adviser, you don't need one. | bogleheads.org is my advisor: The ER is 0.0% and the advice always solid.

Re: Santader bank refusing to pay
Well I just played around their site and all and came across this link: https://applysecure.santanderbank.com/ (link somehow goes to their homepage if you click it. Works properly if you copy & paste)
It's basically a link that you use to login to "incomplete applications". I gave it a try and it told me that my application is already completed. Below it had a PDF file of disclosure, etc.... and then another one with my full application file. It clearly states on there that I did put in my promo code.
So I did end up finding a proof. I called them again, sent them the file, and had it added to my second "claim request". They said I will have to wait a few days until they can review it and get back to me. It should be a good proof.... especially since the file is from THEIR website... but then again, I already put in a claim which came back declined due to lack of promo code, so I'm not sure how much their claim research team actually cares.
If I hadn't gone through all these steps after basically being denied by multiple customer service reps including supervisors, I would have had no chance at my $225. They basically repeat that since my claim has came back denied, there is nothing that they can do. It was extremely frustrating. Hopefully this file works.
If anyone has the same issue, feel free to use the link above to a access your application file.
EDIT : somehow that link I provided goes straight to the home page if you click on it? It works if you copy & paste though.

You should get the bonus since you now have proof. I would ask for them to double it for my trouble. You can always contact the office of [the Grupo Santander CEO. personal info removed by admin alex].

Re: Santader bank refusing to pay
I finally received my bonus. I sent in the application file so I guess their "research" department messed up. I put in the proper code from the beginning, very frustrating having going through this and taking this long.
Overall, I didn't like anything about this bank and it almost seemed like a scam how they simply looked over a written fact and then to basically tell me "case closed"!!
