My current car is a 2015 Subaru, but my previous car was an 2002 Acura TL that I bought used and drove for over 10 years. Had 210K miles on it when I traded it in for my Subaru.

My car strategy is to buy used - $10K-$15K, 1-owner cars if possible, pay cash and less then 40K miles - usually 3-5 yrs old when I find them:

2006 Toyota Highlander 134K Miles - bought used with 55K miles 5 years ago - 1 previous owner - great car
2007 Nissan Altima - 90K - bought used with 50K miles 4 years ago - 1 previous owner - low maintenance

regular oil changes at 3000 miles, Michelin tires and have little to no car drama - more importantly no payments.

2012 BMW 77K miles. Will replace probably by summer with around 90K miles. Thinking Grand Cherokee Diesel at this point.

Wife has a 2014 Acadia Denali with 52K miles. Will likely replace when new Acadia platform comes out or around 100K

2006 Chevy Trail Blazer with 125K miles.....bought it used in 2006 (with 18k miles). It has had its share of issues but need I need it to transport my small boat. Plan to keep it several more years. For me, it's less expensive to spend $1000.00 - $1500.00 a year to keep the old beast running rather than spend $30-35K on a used pickup truck. Need a vehicle to pull my boat.

2012 Chevy Impala. Purchased used a few year ago. It is designated as my wife's car or family car (just wife and I). It's a great vehicle and was inexpensive. We don't need hot cars to impress the neighbors. Just want something reliable and inexpensive to maintain so we can enjoy a modest retirement.

I have a 2014 Nissan Maxima with 14K miles on it. I bought it new in 2014 and traded in a 2002 Honda Accord that had about 205,000 miles on it. My strategy is to buy new (although I considered lightly used) and drive for 10+ years. With how few miles I put on now, at ten years the Maxima will only have about 60K miles so I may keep it longer.

We have 4 cars for 4 drivers ( ) 02 Buick Century, 04 Ford Expedition, 07 PT Cruiser, 11 Toyota Prius. The Prius was purchased new to replace a 96 Jeep Cherokee, but the other 3 cars have been purchased used (the 02 is actually the newest addition to the house, bought a few months ago by our 19 yo son so he could take a store manager position that required a vehicle).

Mine's a '97 with 125k miles. I'm the original owner. 20 years is a pretty good run, most likely I'll go car shopping next spring. :D

Are you serious about passing what will be a 30 year old car to a new driver?

2011 BMW 335d, 63k miles
2007 Lexus RX350, 135k miles

Both were never-titled demos, 9k and 11k miles when we bought them.

Looking to replace the RX next summer. We target 10 years, so it's actually due about now. Went 12 years on my 2000 BMW 323i which I traded on the 335d about 4 years ago.

Lots of older vehicles, can't say I'm surprised.

Me: 2013 Ford Escape @ 32k. Bought new with employee discount
DW: 2006 Ford Escape @ 115k. Bought used 3 yrs ago

My wife would like to sell hers and get a Jeep Cherokee. We ride to work together so I just can't justify dropping a bunch of money into another newer car that we don't really need.

2005 Pontiac Vibe with 143k miles. I bought it new in 2004. Currently I am saving money for a "replacement" but that's "just in case" savings. My thought is to only replace it if it dies. I just bought four new tires for it and had it serviced in preparation for the winter. It's a good little reliable car and since I am the original owner, I know for a fact that it's been meticulous maintained and garage kept.

1994 Dodge Caravan with 176,000 miles. I bought it used from my mom in 2001 after my dad died. It was his.

Had some major transmission work done in 2003 and a burned exhaust valve replaced in 2005. Has some rust but runs better than ever. Just like money in the bank.

This is the first van I have owned. I like the room and sitting up high. I'm not sure I could ever go back to a car.

2000 Volkswagon Beetle TDI (mine) 132K miles - bought used in 2002 with 20K miles on it. Poured a far amount of money into it the first couple of years when it lived on the East Coast. Seems to like the Southwest, where its lived the last seven years.

2010 Honda CRV (hers) Purchased new. 170K miles. Love this thing. Nary a problem. We use it for all our long trips.

When our son was young (about 5), in the fall of 1984, we ordered and purchased the new and very in demand second year of the Chrysler minivans (we had a Dodge Caravan). It lasted until we got a 2002 Plymouth/Chrysler Voyager, and that lasted until 2 years ago. We were big minivan fans. For various reasons, now in semi-retirement we are back with older sedans.

I took delivery on my 2016 F-150 on December 8, 2015, so just over a year old and with almost 11,000 miles on it.
My 2008 Mustang has 95,000 miles on it and has been reliable, so I expect it to go beyond the ten year mark, but I'll have cash ready for its replacement if needed...

I hate the car the I'm driving. It doesn't matter how old it is or what make/model. I inherited or rather took the car in compensation for BIL stealing heirlooms worth $10Ks. It's not about the monetary value of the heirlooms since they were never meant to be sold, but they were entrusted to me for safe keeping. He's passed now.
