Anyone found a good replacement for TaxCaster since Intuit screwed it up?

They really messed up the interface. You can no longer quickly tweak numbers and see what happens. They turned in into a slide show where they ask you one question at a time.

I'm looking for a tool that gives you a bunch of edit boxes on one screen and lets you modify them all at once and see the results.

I use my regular tax software. Start with my last return and make a few adjustments to reflect new info.

I will admit right up front that I play too much with spreadsheets.... but in my case, I found it very useful to build a simple Excel model that I customized to match my 1040 - my income lines, my deductions, the usual exemptions. I put in the tax formula to calculate it and can play all day long... Note you do need to watch the bracket breakpoints, but I could put in a formula for that if I wasn't so adamant about staying below xxx! I did the same thing with the AMT since California blesses me with that complexity. And I run it out 5 years (with inflation...) but that's just me. :P
Salvia Clevelandii "Winifred Gilman" my favorite. YMMV; not a professional advisor.

Have you tried the iOS or Android app? It's been a while since I played with it, but I just checked and at least the iPad version hasn't been updated since Dec 2015.

Thank you so much. I'm surprised they left the old one online.

I have not tried their phone app; I didn't even know they had one. If this old one goes offline, I guess I can try that.

Just a heads up, it does look like it is a very old version since it says "age on Dec 31, 2013"

So I presume it is using the tax laws from 2013

I really wish they hadn't messed with it, it is absolutely terrible. If anybody can figure out who to contact about this, it would be superb to flood them with complaints from bogleheads

It didn't even dawn on me that it would be using the old tax laws and tables. Yeah, I guess it won't be much use going forward.

I guess I may have to try the phone app after all.

Yes. The HR Block tax calculator is quite easy to use. It allows you to go back and make simple what if changes without having to re-enter all your data. (Click on View Full Report and edit something.)
