What podcasts do you listen to?

Post by Kencufc » Tue Oct 11, 2016 8:09 pm

What do the Bogleheads like to listen to?

Lately Malcolm Gladwell's Revisionist History has been my go to, but what financial independence podcasts do you listen to?

I liked Revisionist History a lot. I listen to Bob Brinker's Moneytalk (on Downcast app, about $3 per month, simply a rebroadcast of his Sunday show); Masters in Business (obnoxious host) frequently has excellent guests; EconTalk has excellent guests and really good host - Russ Roberts; WealthTrack (Consuelo Mack) has extensive archive, with many excellent guests; new Podcast - Invest Like the Best is off to a pretty good start. With most of these I only download the guest's/shows I'm interested in, but all of them have some really excellent editions.

welcome to the forum.

Here's a link via google that asked the same question (been asked a few times over the years):

https://www.google.com/search?sitesearc ... q=podcasts

No harm done, but I'd suggest checking out the search bar before posting a question. It may have been (probably was) asked before.

btw...I agree with the recommendations of the first two responses. Some others I'd recommend (not yet mentioned):

I've been turned on to the dough roller recently (through a similar question asked and recommendation of a boglehead). That's through doughroller.net (and itunes of course).

James Lange's podcast Retire Secure has had good guests (Jack Bogle, Larry Swedroe, Ed Slott, Jane Bryant Quinn, Larry Kotlikoff, etc).

Paul Merriman has a good podcast, especially if you've drunk the kool aid on slicing and dicing (tilting to small cap and value).

Best of luck and happy listening!

I like to listen to

Dave Ramsey - easy to listen to and the calls are quick
Paul Merriman - I really like him....
Money Matters - Ken Moraif - he will do some market timing, not sure how creditable it is though. He doesn't quite give you enough info to tell why he is saying get in or out...but he adises his customers to either buy hold or sell - entertaining none the less...

I listen to podcast every day when I walk for about 30 minutes and rotate between these three and also podcasts on ufos.

I listen to freakonomics when mowing the lawn.

I've listened to more than a few TED Talks.

The Security Now podcast is popular at the office.

I just started listening to the Criminal Injustice podcast.

The panel discusses a wide variety issues, particularly IP. It's of interest to any investor. A recent podcast was devoted in part to regulation of drones and the copyright interest of a monkey for a selfie (not kidding--a person-hood thing,

Disciplined Investor (Andrew Horowitz) - not Boglehead-conformant, but interesting for world events
Sound Investing (Paul Merriman) - again, not completely Boglehead-conformant, but somewhat (favors index funds and low costs)
Retirement Answer Man (Roger Whitney) - practical advice on balancing life and outside stresses

And from NPR (not relevant to Bogleheads):

"Wait Wait Don't Tell Me" (humorous current-event-based quiz show)
"I’ve come around to this: If you’re dumb, surround yourself with smart people; and if you’re smart, surround yourself with smart people who disagree with you." (Aaron Sorkin)

Given my long train commute, I'm subscribed to about 60 podcasts (some are only 2-3 minutes). I often skip episodes (e.g. if a news podcast is more than a day or so old) to keep it manageable. You can listen to podcasts at up to 3x speed using the pocketcast app (and possibly others). You'd be surprised how fast you can train your brain to listen to fast speech, although you usually have to actively listen.

Some of my favorites:
Planet Money
The Space Show
Hardcore History
Security Now
Wooden Overcoats

Tim Ferriss Show

EconTalk

Talking Telsa

Meb Faber Show

Dave Ramsey

Jocko Podcast

A few that support my political leanings, one or two that don't

My favorite thing to do is to search for current interests. For example, I just read: Pre-Suasion: A Revolutionary Way to Influence... by Robert Cialdini Ph.D. Pre-Suasion: A Revolutionary Way to Influence and Persuade And since the author's been selling the book, he's been on quite a few podcasts. I listen to all of them. I do this a lot. It feels like being in college (except I'm really interested in the subject) ... you read the book, then listen to the lecture!

I love podcasts whenever I am in my vehicle and long plane rides. Mowing the lawn goes by faster. Here in Maine everything is a long drive and repetitive music station get boring quickly. Unless I want to here the local weather or news I prefer to listen to various podcasts.

Thanks for the thread. May have been done in the past but good to see and updated list. I will try some of the ones listed above. I did listen to Dan Ramsey and also Motley Fool but found that by the the time I got to listen to the episodes they were not timely. (I am years behind on some podcasts )
I enjoy reading alot but gave up doing that while driving when traffic in our area and on 95 picked up!

I'll put in another plug for the Pocket Cast app. Apple destroyed its podcast app in iOS 9 (I think), and I started using Pocket Casts instead. It has a couple of quirks, but it's nowhere near as bad as Apple's built-in app.

That being said, the podcasts I like are:

Wealthtrack

Song Exploder

TedTalks
Code Switch
Invisibilia

Clark Howard

Pat Flynn of SmartPassiveIncome.com

Tim Ferriss but I choose each show carefully. Tim is vain so a bit hard to take but some of his guests are fantastic. Too bad I have to wade through 2 minutes of ads first.

Same here. I just started listening and think they've got some great perspectives.

Stacking Benjamins has been added to the wiki: Podcasts

For the wiki, are there any other suggestions for financial / investing podcasts? Should any of them be removed?

Tip: Type "Podcast" in the wiki's search box (upper right corner of the page).

I would recommend Afford Anything http://podcast.affordanything.com/listen/ Paula Pant does great job and has a mixture of interview format, Q&A, and solo-episodes. It's a newer show, but if you haven't heard it, I think it would be a great addition to your list.
