FWIW, "paid time off" can be a little weird.
My wife is a high school teacher so I now know a lot of teachers. Many claim woe is me, I get no "paid" vacation.
But if someone has a 52 week a year job, gets paid $75K, and gets 14 weeks of paid vacation, plus 10 paid holidays so they are at work 36 weeks a year or 180 days a year, and someone else is contracted to work 180 days a year, gets paid $75K a year and gets "no paid vacation", I confess I do not see a lot of distinction. Fundamentally they are both at work the same number of hours and get the same pay over the course of a year.
Yes, they do not get to take it just whenever, but that is true for a lot of people with paid vacation time. So there is some small difference from what some people call vacation time.
I have learned not to engage in a conversation about this point when it come up. They really
don't want to hear any contrary views.
I would also add, when I take a "vacation" no one does my job for me. I have to do some combination of work extra hard to get ahead before and/or work extra hard to catch up when I return. This is true for most white collar workers as far as I can tell. Time away from the office is nice and I am glad I get it, but it does not mean any less work really.
