Old School alarm/table clock

Yes, yes, I use the phone apps to listen to music at my bedside, but I would just like to wake up and look over at the clock to see the time without fumbling for my phone. Preferably an LED or similar digital readout that I can see in the dark - that might even have one of those alarms that starts off gently and gradually increases instead of making me jump out of my skin when I am fast asleep and it goes off.

Is that too much to ask? Anyone have a brand or model to recommend? I was checking around on Amazon - very mixed reviews on a bunch of clocks with names I have never heard of - maybe Chinese, not sure...again, very mixed reviews...I need an alarm clock I can count on.

We have one of these IPhone clock radio and docking stations. It is OK and the alarm is OK. It came on all at once. We stopped using it when Apple changed their plugs with the new connector to charge the phone. We went back to our old school plain clock radio. Se we are retired so we almost never use it.

My daughter had one of the Garfield Talking alarm clocks that was great. It came on slow and low and told her "time to get up" and then increased in volume and repeated 2-3 times. If she pushed the snooze button (the eyes as I recall) it said "OK sleep some more".. It was very cute and soothing.

I've been looking for an electric clock with a face and hands. We seem to have frequent power outages while away at work. A vintage (that really hurts) plug in wall clock is a great way to tell how long the power outage the blinking microwave lets me know happened, actually lasted.

I use a Timex clock radio. I like it, it does what you ask for. The reviews, both negative and positive are true. For me the negatives are largely irrelevant. That's something you need to decide for yourself. Looking at the manual on line may help. It has one negative that no one mentioned -- it only does AM/PM and does not have a 24 hour mode or a 12 hour mode.

They do not make them like they used to.

I've gone through a few alarm clocks over the last not too many recent years. Usually the buttons stop working. So it is either impossible to adjust the time as the clock is too fast or slow, or impossible to adjust the wake up time. Or both.

But they are so cheap, just buy a new one every three years.

The Timex one I had was pretty sweet, but even when everything worked it was not user friendly at all to adjust the time and wake up settings.

My current Sony is approx 5 minutes slow. And it cannot be adjusted. So I compensate by having my alarm set 5 minutes earlier. Eventually I will no longer be able to adjust the wakeup time.

If the alarm is optional, I would get a Telnote. These are large display callerIDs. They can be seen from across the room and display the time in digital. Then when an anonymous call or some unlikely number like yours with digits switched comes in you let voice mail pick it up.

I have battery operated Seiko alarms so that the alarm works even if the power fails, but the good models seem to no longer be made.

UPDATE: I just looked at the Telnote website and it has become some casino site. Stuff still seems to be for sale on amazon, however.

Not quite what you asked for but I like the Casio TQ140. Battery operated. Not LED but glows in the dark. Hasn't failed me yet. I have two of them - kind of doubtful the battery will fail on both the same night.

A very un thrifty reply. About 15 years ago , but stayed in a very nice hilton which had an alarm clock I loved for its simplicity.
I found that there is a "Hilton at Home" site where you can purchase products found in their hotels. Ibought one and have it still.

Radio is great, nice display. I do press a button at night to set it which works for me. Love it simplicity in every day use.

Some alarm clocks have annoying features. The new one I bought requires some degree of attention to set it to on. It has no lighted dial. The snooze alarm is only 5 minutes, not 10. It is easier to sift through these things on the web than go to a store where they might not even have what you want in stock.
