Mercedes AMG, very safe high performance car. When I had enough money to retire, it would have been a shame to die in an accident

I LOVE my Subaru Forester! That said, it's not a sedan. Perhaps check out a V-6 Honda Accord sedan?

I've always been an Accord guy but test drove the new one and the CVT and losing the double wishbone suspension has really made it a soul less vehicle. Leaning towards Mazda or possibly Subaru for my next daily driver.

I get it now -- this was a trick question. Most of the answers have been what BH actually drive. I think only these guys answered the question:

According to this article Lexus instead of BMW.

"If you want to be happy in retirement, consider ditching your BMW.

Certified financial planner Wes Moss has surveyed over 1,300 retirees in 46 states about everything from their assets to their happiness and the cars in their driveways.

He found that when it comes to luxury cars, the most common pick among unhappy retirees is the BMW."

http://www.businessinsider.com/why-unha ... mws-2014-7

From last year.
"Looking at individual brands, the index shows that Americans prefer Japanese and luxury brand cars, with Lexus displacing Mercedes Benz as the brand with the highest overall satisfaction (84 out of 100). Mercedes tied for second place with Acura and Lincoln.

The average for all autos fell 3.7 points to 79. The only American automaker to rank above average was Ford with a score of 81. General Motors and Chrysler saw their scores fall modestly to 79 and 75 respectively."

Two Subaru Foresters.....a 2001 and 2002. I like to buy cars new and run them as long as possible. Am thinking of a newer car in light of safety advances over the last 10-15 years but they both still run well. Maybe we will treat ourselves to an upgrade like a Subaru Outback this time. If I were a more successful investor (having discovered Bogle-ism late in life) I might be talking about a new Lexis or similar.

I understand the track record of Toyota and Honda, but I have had a much more fun driving experience and superb reliability with my Mazdas since 2006.

My wife has a Honda. It's fine/acceptable, but I love getting back behind the wheel of my Mazda6 after driving the Honda. It's just more fun to drive.

Small cheap compact cars from Honda or Toyota for commuting (Yaris, Fit, etc.) The less technology the better - (no powered windows, manual stick shift, no key-less entry, no key less ignition starter). Unfortunately manufacturers are making only a few cars with these these bare bone options.

I found this kinda surprising so I looked at the article. You quote it correctly, but note that they are not unhappy with their car; they're just unhappy. I would think Ferrari drivers might be even unhappier. Lots of folks engage in "retail therapy." Some other folks just really like cars.

Yes, I think he was asserting certain types of people are drawn to certain types of cars because they are designed with different images and functionality.

I have prius V and I like it a lot. Great for environment and valet. If you are in eco mode, pick up is little bit slow, power mode turns it into normal car. I had brought it when gas prices are high, now it might be best time as gas prices are low and most tend to go towards regular cars instead of hybrid.

We have a 2014 Kia Forte and a 2007 Toyota Camry. Purchased both used 1 year old from a locally-owned Carmax-type used car dealer. (Late model only, priced at market, no negotiations.)

Happy with both but the Camry's a bit dull to drive and the fuel economy isn't great. When I bought the Forte I figured we'd use the Camry for highway driving but am quite happy with the Forte for that purpose, for 2 people. Back seat adult passengers are quite comfortable around town but I wouldn't subject them to the back seat for long-distance trips.

I love my 2010 Toyota Avalon XLS.
Bought used in 2011 with 15,000 miles. Now has 40,000 miles.
Seems like low mile Avalon's are pretty rare these days.

I drove the cheapest BMW available, the 128i. A fun car, small and easy to drive, with the last (?) standard transmission I'll likely ever find in my lifetime.

Wife - 2007 Hummer H3
Me - 2012 F150 Supercrew

Bought both new for cash and will likely hold both for some time. The H3 gets driven little, while the F150 is taken on trips and any heavier duty work. Both are in great shape with no body rust; even the H3 has little rust underneath after its early years in UNY salt. A real trooper of a vehicle.

I like to have newish cars for myself and family (<6 or 7 years). I've had wonderful luck with Mazdas and just today purchased a Subaru Outback. But I generally buy the base model without all the flub-dubs--that's where the budget can get busted. And the Japanese cars hold value well.

Surprised there is little talk of Hyundai/Kia. They offer a 5-year limited basic/10-year powertrain warranty, great bang for the buck, and Kia was just named #1 and Hyundai #3 in the J.D. Power Initial Quality Report.

Why? I find the lowest end Mercedes (applies to most luxury brands) to be terrible cars. The price is simply a cruddy car plus a badge premium.

I've driven a lease special cla as a rental. Really disappointing.

We use Toyota Camry as our main family vehicle. So far it's very reliable.

We'll upgrade to a Lexus as we get close to retirement.

2010 Mazda 3 with reasonable package (not the top one), had it since July of 2009, so 7 years now. It has 55k miles on it, so I may have to keep this car forever :)

Wife has 2008 Highlander Sport with 70k miles, we bought it in 2009 and drive it a lot more ;)....

Both purchased new and agreed to keep until not financially maintainable.

Wife: 2006 Honda CR-V
Me: 2016 Honda HR-V

The wife's CR-V is her second 2006. The first was totaled when I was rear-ended in 2013, and she loved the car so much we replaced it with another, but upped the trim package.

I would say the new Lotus Evora automatic in the fully tricked out form.

However, actual vehicle is a nice Ford F-150 with the front middle seat option that allows me to fit Momma Dawg and the four little Dawgs all in at once.

But the Evora is way cooler looking

A car that is dependable and will last...

Last five cars have been Toyota products (Solara, Sienna, Corola (2), and Lexus ES350). Experience has been good!

2011 Nissan Leaf 100% electric for around town.
2014 Tesla Model S for the open road.

I never bought a new car in my life. Only until I retired and had the money did I buy two new cars with my late spouse. These cars may be the last cars I own, since I have a habit of owning cars for 10-15 years.

I have three cars that I use regularly. A 2001 Toyota Tundra with 190,000 miles to commute to work. For the weekends, I have a 2005 Acura NSX and a 2006 Honda S2000. The weekend cars are great driving cars and as a bonus, suffer no depreciation at all. The NSX has actually went up in value since I purchased it.

this is odd but I currently have 4 for 2 drivers. very unbogle.

'14 camry lease is up soon (odd circumstances)
'12 Odyssey (longer trips)
'06 330i
'02 530i

I like older BMW's and do all the work on them myself. When the camry is gone this year it will just be a couple of daily driven bmw's with the van for family trips or when we need more room. We have 2 kids. I wanted more but my wife says we are done so.... I would have never bought the van if I'd known we would stop at 2.

I drive a base model 2007 Toyota Yaris. It's the commuter car. My wife, who is a BH by association, drives a 2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L. It's the family car.

I'd LIKE to drive a Toyota Avalon Ltd. :D
