Re: Netflix, Your Current Favorite Show
I just finished Season 2 of Better Call Saul, which is the latest available on Netflix. A quick google search suggests that Season 3 will show up on Netflix a few weeks before Season 4 is released on AMC. Hopefully, that will occur around the end of March.
In the mean time, I just started binge watching Halt and Catch Fire.
This show hits home, it's very good. No explanations are needed - I know the background well.

Re: Netflix, Your Current Favorite Show
I just finished watching Manhunt: Unabomber. It was very well done and focused on the FBI agent who developed the new field of forensic linguistics to track down the Unabomber.
It was particularly interesting to me because in the summer of 1995 I was working at a large tech company in the Bay Area. We were evacuated mid one afternoon for a thankfully false Unabomber scare.

Now playing on Netflix:
Dreamland is a hilarious Australian office comedy about a hapless team trying to build major infrastructure projects, painfully accurate for anyone who's worked in public service on any continent.
https://www.netflix.com/title/80063251
Norsemen is an exceptionally violent deadpan Norwegian Viking comedy, a bit like Monty Python but for Norwegians instead of Brits (and with the less-famous Norwegian sense of humor)

Six part Netflix documentary series "Dirty Money". Series is fascinating exploration of recent scams & scammers. Episodes cover payday loan practices, bank money laundering of drug cartel money, Volkswagen cheating on diesel emission tests, pharmaceutical company shenanigans, sticky business in the Canadian maple syrup industry, and the dealings of a multimillion dollar con-man.

Great show, great ending. Lots of filler episodes though. May have been the point, but I'm not sure.

I've been amazed how much that I thought was filler came backto play a major role later on. Had no idea that an old dude with a bell on his wheel chair was going to play such a major role.
Re: Netflix, Your Current Favorite Show
I was more referring to an episode mostly about someone chasing a fly the whole time. May have showed obsession or something, but I thought it was a waste.Sockpuppet wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2018 2:25 pmI've been amazed how much that I thought was filler came backto play a major role later on. Working our way through to catch up with The Crown.
Very well done.
As with many books/movies like this, we always wonder how accurate some of the behind the scenes portrayals are, but the big picture itself is so interesting.
And we are waiting, waiting for the return of Billions.
Fascinating intersection of several "parts of life": finances, politics, interpersonal behavior...

Am halfway through the new season of Frankie and Grace and loving it. Particularly the story line about Grace’s need for a knee replacement and her total denial of the reality of her situation. Also her friend’s worsening dementia. The show is doing a great job of portraying the drip... drip... drip of aging.

My wife and I recently watched "The Toys That Made Us", and we really enjoyed it. Each episode is a documentary covering the history of a different toy line, from its creation up to the present day. There are tons of interviews with everyone involved in the process, and it is an entertaining behind-the-scenes look at what goes into bringing toys to market. There are only four episodes currently, covering Star Wars, Barbie, He-man, and G.I. Joe. They are currently working on four more episodes, from what I've read.

Couldn’t binge watch it because it got old quick but after a couple days I wanted to watch another episode or two.
A kinda sh!tty woman does and accidentally gets sent to heaven and she doesn’t want to leave so she tries to fake being a good person. The flashbacks to her being an awful person when she was alive were hilarious.

I totally agree this series was awesome and I cant wait for the next season. I agree switch to the original German audio with English subtitles. There was so many little nuances in the series I am probably going to binge watch it a second time.

Re: Netflix, Your Current Favorite Show
It has a very "Breaking Bad" feel. I personally thought the first season was excellent, though not quite on par with "Breaking Bad".
Re: Netflix, Your Current Favorite Show
I liked Season 1 of dark a lot. I may try German with subtitles next time.
Mindhunter was pretty good.
Watched Ozarks a while back and enjoyed it. Agree it is breaking badish but not really the comic/quirky streak running in B.B. More serious.
Just starting into Vikings on Amazon. So far so good. It is holding my attention. My wife liked it quite a bit.
Maybe I’ll try godless. For some reason the promo didn’t appeal to me but I might like the show.
I haven’t been able to bring myself to second season of stranger things yet. The first season had good plot and was suspensesful but I find the whole speilberg thing of little kids saving the world offputting. Gives it a bit of a Disney feel.

Re: Netflix, Your Current Favorite Show
My wife and I got bored after watching a handful of episodes. I don't know, it seems very strained, no real suspense, characters have no depth and are hard to identify to, this just didn't click.
We're currently watching The Break, a murder story in a small (and very wrecked) town in Belgium. Now that's different. All the characters are quite disturbing, I mean, all of them, and yet everything feels very real. Impressively well done.
Re: Netflix, Your Current Favorite Show
Hell on Wheels. Five seasons on the building of the Transcontinental Railroad. Great fictional main character among several actual historical figures or characters based on them.
Re: Netflix, Your Current Favorite Show
Recent watches:
Black MIrror season 4 - probably the best series on Netflix. Often great, always interesting
iZombie - episodes are very formulaic when binged, but surprisingly smart and non-cliche'd writing
Dark - felt too much like Stranger Things at the beginning, got interesting towards the middle, then fell apart at the end into a sea of plot holes
Ozark - people in the Ozarks don't actually talk like that
Mindhunter - wanted to like it but couldn't get past 2 episodes
Looking forward to Altered Carbon tomorrow though

My wife liked it so much that my son was given a very prominent "Viking" name, which makes for an interesting discussion with his Hispanic surname. Season 3 is very meh, otherwise it is a fantastic series.
Re: Netflix, Your Current Favorite Show
We binge watched "The Crown" and loved it. Wish there were more. We trying watching Ozarks (actually filmed just north of Atlanta) but found we just didn't care for any of the characters.
Re: Netflix, Your Current Favorite Show
Bordertown - Finnish crime drama
Shetland - crime drama set in Shetland (I loved this)
Occupied - Norwegian near-future drama about Russian occupation
The Returned - spooky French drama
The Fear - aging gangster with dementia in Brighton
Fauda -- Palestinian/Israeli drama
Broadchurch -- British crime drama - detective investigating a child's murder
No Second Chance - French adaptation of a Harlan Coben novel about a woman whose child is missing
The OA - very odd but interesting

Started very strong but progressive got worse. After a while you just grew angry at the stupidity of some of the characters.
I enjoyed it if nothing else being set in the keys. Memories from Florida.

- Dexter - great for several seasons but last season or so was weak and finale awful
- House of cards - really liked first season, 2nd ok but just deteriorated after that. Now almost hard to watch. I guess KS recent news probably has put a fork in it

Other good shows
Hell on Wheels - started kind of slow, I actually stopped watching it when I was DVRing it. Year or so later went back and plowed through it on Netflix. I found it really grew on me the more I got into it and was sad when I completed it.
Colony - 2 seasons on Netflix. First was good but at times I got frustrated at characters stupidity. 2nd season was stronger - more sci fi ish and more apocalyptic.
