First episode of the new Murphy Brown. Mixed results. The actors playing Miles and Avery Brown are good, the rest of the cast is really playing it much too broadly. So it is a mixture of some hilarity and some cringing. I hope they get things on track. Plus an annoying laugh track.

I signed up for a free trial of CBS All Access to see this, but they have made the 1st episode available by itself for free viewing.

^ I kinda liked Murphy Brown. But it was a bit too political for me (I avoid politics and 'hot button' news in general). Although I did enjoy the Hillary scene and the Trump twitter war. I'll give it one more episode, but I have a fairly strong "no politics" rule.

I loved the new Roseanne! The first episode was again a bit too political for me, but after that it was minimal enough that I could get a good laugh out of it without feeling like someone was trying to shove their agenda down my throat.

I liked the second episode of Murphy Brown enough to plan to watch future ones. There were some hilarious parts, like when Murphy finds the gatepost at the White House unguarded with a note Back in five minutes, the gate open, and she says This country is so screwed!

They do have to stop the broad acting to the balcony though. That must be a not good director.

They had the first episode Trump tweets perfectly, down to the exclamation points.

I was amazed that they had Sarah Huckabee Sanders in the second episode and was giving both sides brownie points, but it turned out not so, they faked it with press conference footage.

We have watched the first two seasons of Broadchurch on Netflix. This is a chilling but addictive police story.
I kind of enjoyed the 1st season but the the theme was too depressing to go for the 2nd.

I bailed as soon as I saw the direction the 2nd season was taking. I didn't even finish the first episode.

Thanks for all suggestions.

We watched Lilyhammer last night and loved it.

We were going to watch Fargo, but were prompted to pay...is that normal?

Ed
I've never been prompted to pay anything extra on Netflix. Amazon Prime, yes.
The only time Netflix has asked us for money is if we try to stream and our kids already have 2 streams going. then it offers us the chance to upgrade to 3 simultaneous streams for added monthly fee.

Mike
Lilyhammer, on Netflix. It's a dark comedy, which I like. The first episode was entertaining and will keep watching.

Actually, I wanted to watch Fargo. I'm stewing over the $10 / season ( x 3 seasons) that I have to pay on Amazon prime. :annoyed I'll watch Lilyhammer through completion.

By then, I'll have justified the $30 cost in my head by Mental accounting and pay up - it's the equivalent of 3 e-books.

Ironfist on Netflix. Binging on that now.

Manifest (channel 4 I think) seems good. Saw the pilot and it has Stephen King and/or M. Night Shyamalan feels to it. Just my humble opinion.

Missed the premiere of Dr Who with the first female lead Jodie Whittaker. Have added onepass to Tivo. Manifest has potential. New Amsterdam is loosely based on a true story, Ryan Eggold is good but the 2nd episode was not as good as the first.

Just watched last two episodes of Better call Saul's current season. The show is really well done. Very thoughtful. Great characters. I am starting to notice more the unique cinematography. You will end up with quiet shots from unusual viewpoints and just get to ponder it for a minute.

I thought they ended the last episode well. It really points to the future. "Saul Goodman"

I am so stoked that Season 4 of Poldark has finally arrived to America. The only downside is that I have to wait a week between episodes.

But I am a sucker for British historical fiction.

The DW and I have been watching "Death in Paradise" on Netflix and "The Closer" on Amazon Prime. We will soon get to season 3 of "The Man in the High Castle" now that it is available (I tried to get her to refer to me as Obergruppen Hubby, but she refused).

We watched the pilot of "The Rookie" on ABC this week. He's an older small town guy, trained as a lawyer(?), worked in construction for the last several decades. While putting his ink-still-wet divorce papers in the safe deposit, bank robbers enter ...

After the commercial break and 6 months later, it's his first day as a rookie for the LAPD. I hope that's not a spoiler given the title of the show. No more spoilers except to mention lots of gunfire, street chases, etc.

It's better than many shows. I plan to watch the rest of the series.

Just finished Ozark, Jack Ryan and The Expanse (finished Expanse yesterday). These are going to be tough to follow. I have a number of things in my list, but can't help but think I'll be let down after The Expanse. I might try one of the following next: Carnivale, Sharp Objects, Killing Eve, Silicon Valley, Breaking Bad, Walking Dead, The Staircase, The Night Manager, The Killing, Endeavor, Vikings, Castle Rock or Fargo.

When someone reviews a show and says "It's as good as Breaking Bad", there's a reason. Then, Better Call Saul.

Is there a way for cord cutters to watch Doctor Who in the U.S.? The BBC America web site seems to require an account with one of the traditional cable companies.

My local PBS station started showing the old Doctor Who series beginning with Tom Baker's incarnation. He played the role from 1974-1981. It's very funny and we've been enjoying it. We saw it back in the mid-80s originally.

It's only about 60 episodes. Traditional TV shows are ~20 shows per season, so about 3 seasons. Watch one episode a day and you'll be done by Christmas. Although once you start watching it will be hard to not keep a faster pace. You'll also wonder why you didn't follow recommendations to watch it sooner ;)

Note too that unlike traditional TV series that go on and on (and on) until the producers run out of ideas and get cancelled, Vince Gilligan had the entire story in mind from the outset with a planned number of series. That's one reason why the show never gets boring and remains riveting until the very end.

Tracey Ullman on HBO. (An acquired taste perhaps, but I like her.)
I hardly watch anything other than news, so this recommendation means a lot.

(Oh, and also the Simpsons, but this should be assumed; so funny and deep and insightful and full of truth you can't find anywhere.)

Really liked Ozark and The Expanse, thought Jack Ryan was pretty mediocre, but enjoyable.

Breaking Bad - fantastic
The Night Manager -- fantastic, but a limited series
The Killing - horribly fantastic...so depressing.
Vikings - fantastic
Walking Dead - rough first season, pretty great from season 2 through 5 or 6? Has been fading pretty hard for a few seasons now.

Some Others:
Man in the High Castle -- fantastic
Stranger Things -- fantastic
Mindhunter -- fantastic
Daredevil -- fantastic
Game of Thrones -- fantastic
Westworld -- fantastic
Godless -- Almost fantastic. Western revenge limited series.
The Crown -- Very good.
Turn -- Very good. Historical spy drama during the revolution.
Altered Carbon -- Very good. Actor from The Killing.
The Last Kingdom -- Very good. Similar to Vikings (same era, different perspective)
Travelers -- Surprisingly good
The Sinner -- A lighter True Detective, but very enjoyable

Currently Watching:
Designated Survivor -- Went in hoping for some 24 intrigue, but it's pretty mediocre. Doubt I'll get past season 1.
Norsemen -- Amusing because I'm still watching Vikings and The Last Kingdom

Hulu has the first couple seasons of Fargo. If you run out of things to watch on Netflix, it's worth switching for a few months. They also have Handmaid's Tale, Atlanta, The Good Place, etc.

Peaky Blinders. Very well produced, it kept me interested. I just finished Episode 1, Season 1 and will keep going.

As for Altered Carbon, I'm disappointed. After watching the first few episodes, posts here encouraged me to keep going. By the 9th episode, I was bored. The final episode was nothing but <fight>, <pause>, <insert overused dramatic statement here>, <resume fight>, <repeat ad nauseum>. The dialog was trite and predictable.

If they didn't stop fighting to say something (instead of completing the punch / kick / slash in progress) the outcome would have been very different. I gave the series a down-vote.

Letterkenny on Hulu.
Second this, but fair warning it's very raunchy. :)

Most convenient for me to watch on Hulu. We get Hulu at no charge through our Sprint cell phone plan - can watch on a desktop or on the smart phone - at my convenience. Also watch Law and Order SVU and Forensic Files on Hulu.

Been very much enjoying a Spanish Netflix series called El Ministerio del Tiempo (The Ministry of Time). It's a Spanish time travel show that would appeal to history buffs and Dr. Who fans. Not rocket science but pretty good light sci-fi.

"""The Ministry of Time is the best kept secret of the Spanish state: an autonomous government institution that reports directly to the Prime Minister. Its patrols have to watch the doors of time so that no intruder from other eras can change history for their own benefit.

The series follows the assignments of the Ministry's newest patrol: the one formed by Army of Flanders soldier Alonso de Entrerríos, 19th century student Amelia Folch and 21st century Samur paramedic Julián Martínez."""
Most of the current TV dramas are too dark and, well, dramatic for my taste, while the comedies just don't strike me as all that funny. This one strikes a nice balance between the two.

I watched the first season of Yellowstone (Kevin Costner) and enjoyed that a lot. I thought I might not like it as I'm not really into Westerns, but this was not really a typical Western.

I am almost done with the first season of Berlin Station. It is pretty good. It is about the CIA station in Berlin.

I also finished season 3 of Daredevil and thought it was okay (I know it is make believe, but when big things don't add up, it detracts from the show).

We just finished season 1 of “The Fabulous Mrs. Maisel” on Netflix. Before we started, I was kind of ho-hum on the whole idea, but my wife’s friends had recommended it, so we persisted. Turns out, I liked it and am looking forward to season 2 being released this coming December. While not of the caliber of say Foyle’s War or Breaking Bad, it was pretty enjoyable.

Jack Ryan on Amazon Prime Video. So far it's pretty good.
Just got done watching the last episode. Great watch. If you're into Tom Clancy material I recommend this one.

Bodyguard on Netflix is starting out very good with intense action scenes, although the lead's Scottish accent is a bit hard to understand occasionally.

Finishing watching Season 2 of Atypical; very good drama/comedy about a family that has an 18 year old autistic son who is "coming of age".
Plan on doing Daredevil Season 3 after, then hit Schitt's Creek Season 4.

Netflix is just hitting home run after home run recently. I feel like there's no reason to watch channels any longer.
