Economic or Investment book recommendation

Post by Trapper » Thu Dec 17, 2015 5:18 pm

Shopping for a good read for my daughter's boyfriend for Christmas.
He has an economic degree from West Point.
Please let me know what you have enjoyed and learned from.

"Common Sense on Mutual Funds"

Post by Taylor Larimore » Thu Dec 17, 2015 5:32 pm

Trapper:

An excellent book for a college graduate with an economics degree would be Jack Bogle's, "Common Sense on Mutual Funds." David Swensen, Chief Investment Officer of Yale University, wrote:
"Jack Bogel gave the public two magnificent gifts--Vanguard...and Common Sense on Mutual Funds, a readily accessible guide on how to manage personal investment portfolios. Take advantage of Jack Bogle's gifts and pass them on to someone you love."
Best wishes.

Thanks Taylor! I am also getting some great ideas from reading the thread "what book have you recently read".

I Will Teach You to be Rich by Ramit Sethi. Great introduction to personal finance for someone coming out of college.

Any of William Bernstein's books are always my default recommendation. The Four Pillars Of Investing really opened my eyes. The Investor's Manifesto is a bit of an easier read than Four Pillars.

At the risk of showing my political/economic biases, I offer these suggestions (he's probably read some of these):

Milton Friedman - Free to Choose
Thomas Sowell - a few to choose from
Hayek
Freakonomics
Dan Ariely
