2000 Toyota Sienna. Bought it new in 2000 with the automatic remote sliding door opener to help put our upcoming baby in.
Just sold it to carmax with 193,500 miles. That “upcoming baby” ended up learning to drive in that Sienna.
Now have a 2018 Subaru Outback with 112 miles.

Re: Flaunt Your High-Mileage Car
The question for me is which high mileage car
1990 Honda Civic 170,000
2007 Lexus RX350 172,000
1991 Chevrolet S-10 278,000 (Probably closer to 300,000 - speedometer doesn't work until you drive it at least 5 miles or so )
1996 Chevrolet S-10 292,000
Wouldn't bat an eye about jumping in any of these and head across the country. We do have a 2013 Honda CRV with a piddly 58,000 miles on the odometer that the DW drives.

Re: Flaunt Your High-Mileage Car
I have a 2011 Toyota Corolla S with just about 50k on it and I don't come close to puttung 10k miles on in a year. I could easily see another 20 years in this thing.
Re: Flaunt Your High-Mileage Car
My wife has a 2007 Yaris with 225,000 miles on it.
I drive a 2003 Accent with 92,000 miles.
Both cars have never left us sit and have had just routine maintenance.

Re: Flaunt Your High-Mileage Car
Volvo 1996 850 – 297,000 (still got $1500 as trade on ‘new’ preowned car)
Volvo 2003 V70 – 265,000 ($1800 trade-in on ‘new’ preowned car)
Volvo 2008 XC70 – Only 75k so far as I converted to telecommuter and not driving as much. This one will last me another 15yrs
I like Volvo’s -buy them a few years old and ~45-50k miles then maintain them. All my trade-ins were running fine, just wanted a wagon or with XC higher clearance vehicle for snowy roads.

Let us have a moment of silence, please, for my 1996 Ford Aerostar with 247,000 miles on it. It is leaking coolant big-time into the engine and is not worth getting fixed. Rusting body, bad shocks, and the AC was not working as well. We have had Aerostars since 1987 and this one, our second, has been great. Each kid had his/her own seat during 12 hr drives to visit family, which served to preserve domestic tranquility.
We just bought a 2018 Subaru Outback, but will miss having the hauling utility and seven passenger capability of the Aerostar.

Mine is a 2003 Lexus RX300 and I love it!!!! 180,000 miles on it and going strong. I love this car so much, most every week I tell my husband, "I love my car!" And every time my mom comes to town and I pick her up from the airport in it she says, "Did you get a new car?". Cracks me up. My goal is to drive it past the 200,000+ mile mark. My next car (only when this one has too big of an issue to pour the money into it) will be a used Lexus RX330. I just love them!

Do you think you need to probably update the garage (?wood panels?) to match the looks of the car!!

Re: Flaunt Your High-Mileage Car
I've got a 1998 BMW M3 with around 175K miles on it.
That is very high mileage among my friends and neighbors who all have 2010 and above cars, many on lease.
I'm finally looking for a new car since mine needs new shock absorbers and I think it is about time. I go on long trips to the mountains quite frequently and the high mileage is starting to worry me a bit. I am thinking of buying a new 2018 VW Golf R this spring. I only have space for one car in my garage, otherwise I would love to keep the BMW as well.

I'd re-do the entire garage up to my standards if I wasn't renting the place! House was built in the 1800s.Mrxyz wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2018 11:18 pmVery nice ! 2012 Honda Accord 71k miles. Still 100% trouble free. Not high mileage yet but will be in a few years. What a great car this has been.

2003 Honda CR-V with 150k miles.
I've thought for years now that "this is the year I'll replace it", but nope, it keeps reliably taking me where I need to go without complaint. And I keep watching - and chuckling to myself - as my neighbors continue to get new cars every couple of years. They can keep their new cars, and I'll keep my bank/investment balances.

I'm proud of my '98 Toyota 4Runner with 233k on it so far. I'm going to keep it as long as it still runs! On the other hand, just bought a like new 2012 Toyota RAV4 for my wife with only 29k on it.
Re: Flaunt Your High-Mileage Car
2001 Toyota Tundra V8 4WD, 200,00 miles. Bought new and still drive every day. The newer full size trucks have gotten too big for my needs. I probably will get a new Honda Ridgeline when it finally dies.
Re: Flaunt Your High-Mileage Car
High mileage cars if taken care of can function good. I once owned a 1998 Toyota Camry for 14 years with over 220K miles. Once it started overheating it was time to get rid of it. I sold my Camry on Craigs list in 2012 for 2K

Re: Flaunt Your High-Mileage Car
I know people who drive vehicles until they hit 100k and then trade them in solely because they hit a mileage in which they feel the car starts becoming unreliable.
Do you know where those vehicles go? Right into my garage.

The Integra has had by far the most problems, but it's my high school car and I just can't give it up!

Re: Flaunt Your High-Mileage Car
2012 camry bought used from Hertz in 2013. 170K miles still going strong and I dog this car out with how hard I push it. Outside of common maintenance (oil change, brakes, tires, etc) it has not had a single repair yet.
Re: Flaunt Your High-Mileage Car
2012 Mazda 3. 77,000 miles and so far nothing but oil changes and brakes/tires. It replaced a 1995 Honda Civic that had 220,000 on it before it was totaled.

Re: Flaunt Your High-Mileage Car
2002 Cadillac DeVille DTS purchased new on Sept. 6, 2002. Odometer turned 100,000 miles last week.
There is more to the story: This past March, I was sitting in traffic waiting for a stoplight to change. A car two cars behind mine slammed the car in back of me. The car in back of mine hit my car which pushed my car into the car in front of me. Both fenders of my car and the hood appeared damaged but it was perfectly drivable. However, after closer inspection there was more damage to the body than I originally thought. Inasmuch as it's an old car, my insurer declared it a total loss. To repair it cost over $9K but my insurer (Amica) paid about half of it. It came back from the body shop looking like it came off the showroom floor and still drives like a dream. When I came back from the body shop I told Elke, "My car and I renewed our vows today. 'Til death do us part."

2010 Hyundai Elantra with 130,000 miles. Not the highest mileage car in this thread but it's been excellent to me and I plan to keep it as long as I can.

2007 Honda Odyssey 251,000 miles and still running great. Made a lot of great memories on road trips and watched kids grow up in it. Plan to drive another year or so and donate.

This doesn't include the increased caloric intake needed to fuel the bike.njoyingdajourney wrote: ↑Sun Jun 19, 2016 7:04 pm 6 miles round trip.
$2000 for bike
Assuming No safety/snowmobile suit required or tax and title & also no depreciation on car or lower maintenance cost on bike and free electricity & you two will not carpool on the electric bike & you only use the bike to save miles to work. & future money is not worth more than money today.
gas at $3/gallon
30 mpg for your car
$2000/$3 gallon = 667 gallons
667 * 30mpg = 20,010 miles
20,010/6 mile round trip = 3,335 round trips
260 day worked per year (little on high side)
3,335/260 = 12.8 years
MathWizard - Are my numbers right with 12.8 year pay back period? I don't seem to ever be able to justify buying a two wheeled vehicle to save money Maybe if electric bike ran to 300k and got it on this thread.

My car is a 2007 Hyundai Sonata with 191,000 miles.
My wife's car is a 2003 Nissan Altima with 189,000 miles.
I find a lot of preventative maintenance helps cars make it to the high mileage club.

2001 Toyota Tacoma Pre-Runner....purchased new...301,000 Miles. I had routine maintenance performed, but no major repairs required. Just brakes, batteries, etc. The paint looks great with no rusting.
It still runs fine, but I only drive it locally for short hauls and on the farm. I’ll probably replace in a few years, but as of now, no problems. Our other car is a 2007 Toyota 4-Runner with 130,000 Miles with no issues. No plans to replace it anytime soon.

Re: Flaunt Your High-Mileage Car
I am driving a 1998 honda accord with 260,000 miles. It keeps on running, but it is leaking motor oil, power steering fluid, and coolant. This is most likely because the motor mounts have gone bad and the engine vibrates a lot more than it used to. A weird feature of this car is that it has some "active" motor mounts- they are actuated by air intake vacuum similarly to how a brake booster is actuated. These mounts failing has kind of caused the cascading failure of leaks. I've also got a bad CV axle. At this point it is not worth fixing, so I'm just running it into the ground.
Soon I feel like I'll have to put it out to pasture. It will be the death of an old friend.

Re: Flaunt Your High-Mileage Car
My 2003 Accord is now at 230K miles, perfect running condition (I do all maintenance myself). The only fixes I had to DIY were alternator and starter, both cheap and easy. I myself cannot believe it, never had a car like this. I expected, by this point, to have to replace AC, suspension components, window switch or door lock etc. I still take it on long trips from home.PrettyCoolWorkshop wrote: ↑Wed Jul 18, 2018 8:57 am I am driving a 1998 honda accord with 260,000 miles. I was never attached to any material thing in my life, not even my house. But like you said, when this car dies, it will feel like an old friend has departed.

2002 Dodge Ram 1500. About 300 miles short of 400 thousand. Original engine and transmission. Have to put a pint of STP in every so often, but it gets me to my Old Folks Coffee Group every morning, and it will haul 1/2 cord of firewood, no problem.

Re: Flaunt Your High-Mileage Car
Haven't read this whole thread - this probably doesn't count because it has been in the garage and not functional since 2009 (however I keep it licenced registered and waiting for more complete restoration until I have house remodel done & can reassess finances)
1979 VW Rabbit: purchased new that year 218K miles (rebuilt engine about 185K but still enough problems with electrical etc. had to get new car few years later) Partial restoration with local independent mechanic (I was then living in Alaska) able after second try to get it back to lower 48 to store at family house (1st try car died about 60 miles inside the Yukon Territory and had be be towed back to Fairbanks). Now retired living in said family house - in advanced stages of house remodel and in year or so want to see if more complete restoration possible.
Other end of spectrum: the car I then bought was new 2005 Subaru Outback - not quite 26K miles at the present. No that is not a misprint 13 years and not even 26 K. (I will be driving a lot more in next few years as camping trips increase when house projects finish) These are the only 2 cars I have owned.

2003 Honda Pilot, 188,000 miles, runs like new. I guess by boglehead standards, it isn't very high mileage, but give me a few more years
Also, two BMW motorcycles! Not "high mileage", but the K75 is 23 years old (46,000 miles), and the 1150RT is a youngster at 14 years old and 26,000 miles.
I've been advised to put both bikes in my will, as they'll surely outlast me

I've got the same car...98 M3/4/5 Alpine White Magma interior 152k miles. I have absolutely no hesitation taking it on a long trip from a reliability perspective. Comfort is another story though...driving back to LA from Monterey last year was painful enough that I stopped at BMW, got a 2017 5 series, and picked up the M3 later on. I have some back issues, otherwise I think the seats in the M3 would be fine for most people.
Now I'm driving the M3 two or 3 times a month for fun and I absolutely love it. Doesn't really cost much for insurance etc, so there's no point in selling for me.
