New computer, trouble with Keepass
New computer, trouble with Keepass
I just got a new Toshiba computer with Windows 10. My old computer had Windows 7. One the new computer, I am having trouble dragging and dropping my userid & password from Keepass to the logon window that I want to open. It works for Fidelity and Vanguard and sometimes works for all sites. Then it will stop working for most sites. However, I can usually go back to Fidelity and it works. I could not get it to work with bogleheads.org. I am using my old computer to post this. It is not consistent. Any ideas?
Re: New computer, trouble with Keepass
According to the Keepass forums, there is a known problem with drag and drop when using the Edge browser on Windows 10. Microsoft is looking into it.
An alternative is to use Chrome or Firefox which apparently are working fine. Or you could just double click on the user name or password which will copy it and then paste it onto the field when using Edge.

Re: New computer, trouble with Keepass
I have the trouble with Edge or Internet Explorer. I was under the impression that Microsoft was discouraging using Firefox with Windows 10. I am used to using Firefox, it is what I have on my old Windows 7 PC. I was able to cut & paste the userid but was not able to cut & paste the password.
Re: New computer, trouble with Keepass
Microsoft is discouraging the use of other browsers, but there is no good reason not to use other browsers if you want to. It's a bit difficult to make other browsers the default browser on Windows 10. Here are the instructions for Firefox.

Or right click on the Keepass entry, then copy & paste the user name or password. Or use "Perform auto-type" which will enter both on many, but not all, websites.jchef wrote:According to the Keepass forums, there is a known problem with drag and drop when using the Edge browser on Windows 10. Yes, that seems easiest. With a little editing you can increase the number of websites in which this will work. See http://keepass.info/help/base/autotype.html.Doom&Gloom wrote: ... Or use "Perform auto-type" which will enter both on many, but not all, websites.

Thanks! I did not know that. I never cease to be amazed by the flexibility and power of Keepass. It seems I learn something new about it quite often even though I have been using it for several years.FiveK wrote:Yes, that seems easiest.
