At what point do bogleheads look at bogleheads.org?
At what point do bogleheads look at bogleheads.org?
I usually read multiple in-state newspapers online first, then cnn.com and nbcnews.com. After that I look at ski conditions in the winter and fishing conditions in the spring/summer/fall. I look at bogleheads.org last, and maybe 33% of the time I don't look at this site at all on a given day.
I find investing interesting, but other topics more so.

Depends.
I'm on travel right now, so less time to fritter about online.
But I keep a BH tab open all the time, even when I'm river rafting...

I look often, I respond when someone is in need of assistance. The forum has 4-5 sections, not all of them revolve around investing. Let me give you an example, if I wish to learn about $5,000 watches, I search for the Petrocelli thread on watches, interested in finding out what kind of car you should buy - you can search for that thread as well. Shopping for a new lawn mower, snow thrower, when to change the motor oil in your car, what kind of motor oil to use - that too, you can find here at bogleheads.org. In need of a fine tasting bottle of bourbon, wine, scotch, port, madeira and where to find it cheap - why you can find it in the Consumer Issue forum. How about saving money on razor blades, or interested in packing on some muscle and learning about oatmeal, why you can find that here too!
No, no - bogleheads is soooo much more than just "investing", it's your one-stop shop to most anything that modern consumers use on a daily basis, including their coffee french press.

The Bogleheads' Forum.

Every morning I look forward to reading the latest posts on the Boglehead Forum. The amount of good information on nearly every financial topic is amazing. The forum is strictly monitored. We are now the largest non-commercial financial forum on the internet.
I have been in finance all my life and I enjoy helping people with their financial questions -- especially when I can learn at the same time. I started posting on the Morningstar forum in the late 90s and helped organize their Vanguard forum. At one time I held the Morningstar record for number of posts (over 25,000). Good Replies often require extensive research and I always try to give my source. I use my real name because I feel a responsibility to stand behind what I write.
In the forward to our book, The Bogleheads' Guide to Investing, Jack Bogle wrote:
It is a wonderful feeling to be in Mr. Bogle's crusade "To give ordinary investors a fair shake."Put yourself, for a moment, dear readers, in my position. How would you feel if an association of American citizens name themselves "(insert your last name here) -heads"? It would all depend--wouldn't it? -- on their character, their values, and the extent to which their intellectual and moral principles coincided with your own. Here, the Bogleheads gain high scores, espousing the investment strategies and human values to which I've dedicated my entire career.
Best wishes
Taylor

With my morning coffee, just before I go to bed (now), and various other times during the day.
The surest way to know the future is when it becomes the past.

I check this site several times per week but it's not part of a daily routine. I'm here basically to learn but also to help answer questions when I can, or to provide information for some of the surveys that are conducted here.
Usually when I do check this site it's in the evening, since I'm not looking for information that's relevant to the day's markets or economic conditions.
I check Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg.com, and The New York Times regularly, often several times a day on-line. Since I'm retired, this is just one of the things I do -- keeping up with world events, especially those that have an economic or financial impact. I'm not a trader, so I'm not looking for actionable information. But I do monitor my investments and when the time comes to make certain transactions or to rebalance my accounts I prepare for this.

This thread is now in the Personal Consumer Issues forum (website).
I spend a lot of time reading posts.

Random, not a scheduled activity.
Re: At what point do bogleheads look at bogleheads.org?
This is about right for me. I usually enjoy the consumer and personal finance threads the most. As for investing--I am trying to keep things simple, so some of the more advanced investing topics don't interest me as much. I'm trying to remain dumb enough to just stand here and do nothing!cheese_breath wrote:With my morning coffee, just before I go to bed (now), and various other times during the day.

Every morning I check my personal email then do a daily update of YNAB (You Need A Budget) on my computer. I then browse Bogleheads.org and some reddit forums related to finances, then some news sites.
Re: At what point do bogleheads look at bogleheads.org?
I read multiple sites every day including this one. Sometimes I just scan the list of topics that people have posted and just move on and other times I spend time reading some threads and like this one I post on. Many threads I read I like to come back to it to see what others have posted so I am back later on in the day. FYI - I am retired and therefore probably have a lot more time than folks who work.
Re: At what point do bogleheads look at bogleheads.org?
Investing is supposed to be boring and other topics should be more interesting. As Dr. Paul Samuelson said, "Investing should be like grass growing, if you want excitement, take $800 to Las Vegas." I have had a similar portfolio since the tech bubble recovery in 2004. What I find fascinating reading the forum is the conflict between logic and emotion about money. I am personally grateful that I can do this without help as the financial advice industry is way too expensive, even the fiduciaries. I only pay .13%.
Our investments have been growing nicely since 2009, but stick around when the next crash hits and it will come unpredicted and a surprise. That's when it gets emotional around here. As Mike Tyson says, "your plan is great until you get punched in the face."

Never in the history of market day-traders’ has the obsession with so much massive, sophisticated, & powerful statistical machinery used by the brightest people on earth with such useless results.

I browse the topics on the BH forum multiple times a day. I scan for new topics, and the ones that I have read that have more recent updates. Most importantly, when I have a question on any topic, this is the place I feel I can turn to for advice and opinions.
