Service Line Warrenties

Post by planoguitarist » Fri May 15, 2015 3:56 pm

I recently received a letter that was saying my city had entered into a partnership with Service Line Warranties of America. This is basically a warranty for the buried, outside water and sewer service lines between the house and the utility connection. It is $103 a year (or you can do just water ($44))

I once would have just ignored this kind of thing assuming it was a scam but some friends of ours had something go totally wrong with their sewer system that wasn't covered by their normal house insurance and it ended up being nearly $50k in repairs.

Any knowledge or opinions of these kind of warranties?

Just another way to pick your pocket like extended warranties, jewelry insurance, travel insurance, cancer insurance and many others. Ignore it.

How old are your water and sewer lines?
How far do your lines run?
Are there any major obstacles to get around when you have to run new lines?
