I really enjoyed watching the spy with Sacha Baron-Cohen on Netflix. This is different from London spy which I have not watched yet.
Is this the clever Sacha Baron-Cohen, or the Borat one?

RM
It's a (very) serious role, so not Borat.

Picard on CBS All Access. 10 episodes of Jean-Luc Picard former Captain of the Starship USS Enterprise (Star Trek The Next Generation series) after his retirement from Starfleet and the mystery/adventure he gets pulled in. Patrick Stewart is a brillant actor, good characters all well played, good plot. Overall well done. Throughly enjoyed it. If you liked Star Trek The Next Generation I highly recommend this.

Shane (1953) Alan Ladd, Jean Arthur, Van Heflin, Jack Palance, Elisha Cook, Jr., Brandon De Wilde

A weary gunfighter attempts to settle down with a homestead family, but a smoldering settler/rancher conflict forces him to act.

A beautiful film and a lot of fun. Filmed near Jackson Hole, Wyoming, with the Grand Tetons in the background. Jack Palance was great as the heavy. I liked it. Not my first viewing.

“Shane. Shane. Come back!"

We streamed it on Starz.

The Farewell

I finally got around to seeing this movie that I missed last summer
at the theater. A family believing an elderly matriarch is dying (and
keeping it from her) gather for a fake wedding which is really a
goodbye for her. It is a little unbelievable that this sharp and witty
woman could be fooled this way, particularly after the family, in
private conversation, revealed she pulled this ruse on her grandfather
years earlier.
The intrafamily dynamics was interesting and comedic but the
ending was so blase' and anti-climatic that it took away from the
movie in my view. With the hype surrounding this movie I expected
a little more.

"The Fall of the American Empire".

This a a Montreal crime movie with English subtitles currently on Starz and not my usual cup of tea. It is a very underrated and enjoyable film. I even enjoyed the ending because it was so laughably anti-capitalistic as to be almost a parody of left-wing gospel.

The role of the boy and his youthful perspective (played unforgettably by Brandon deWilde), plus direction and production by the great George Stevens, are, I think, what made the movie different and a step above, or away from, other westerns of the '50s. Each time I've seen it, it's deWilde's performance that I find myself focusing on most, though the rest of the cast was outstanding in many ways. And now I feel like watching it again. :happy

We needed something escapist, so we just re-watched "Tootsie" (again).

It's deeper than it originally seems, and we both especially love Dustin Hoffman's "almost last line" (about being a man...).

Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool (2019)

Miles Davis: Horn player, bandleader, innovator. This documentary feature explores archival photos and home movies shot by Miles and his colleagues, his manuscripts and Miles' original paintings, to explore the man behind the music.

We watched this tonight on Netflix. I recommend it. Great music and insight into the artist’s life.

What’s Eating Gilbert Grape.

Wife liked it. I thought that there was too much screaming and loud noises in it for the movie to be enjoyable. But Leonardo Di Caprio is a good actor.

Catch Me If You Can, on DVD.

Starting 5th week of stay at home, time to start looking at movies on old DVDs.

An excellent drama, based on a true story about the FBI hunt for a teenage forger and con man who masqueraded as an airline pilot, doctor, and lawyer. The movie stars Tom Hanks, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Christopher Walken.

I tried Parasite on Hulu last night. I lasted about 40 minutes. I'd forgotten it was the Academy Award Best Picture and many other awards. As I type this I went back and read a few reviews that have me thinking I may go back and try again at some point. For now I don't understand why it was so talked about and won so many awards.

I have heard so many negative reviews from people that I normally share movie tastes with, that I'll probably skip it. I've kind of noticed that if a film wins best picture (at least in our current entertainment paradigm, maybe the last decade) I likely won't enjoy it.

I loved it but I also like a lot of foreign movies that are not "main stream". I found the character development and story line really well done, with interesting plot twists. You have to concentrate a little more due to the sub-titles but well worth it IMO.

YMMV. :happy

Parasite (2019, South Korea) Kang-ho Song, Sun-kyun Lee, Yeo-jeong Jo. Story and directed by Bong Joon Ho.

As everyone knows, winner of Best Picture, 2019. Excellent film, I sat with rapt attention throughout. I agree with a previous poster who said it was difficult to suspend disbelief at a certain point, but this didn’t interfere with my viewing enjoyment. Recommended. We streamed it on Hulu.

Ford v Ferrari (2019) Matt Damon, Christian Bale, Jon Bernthal

American car designer Carroll Shelby and driver Ken Miles battle corporate interference and the laws of physics to build a revolutionary race car for Ford in order to defeat Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966.

I enjoyed looking at the cars but the film was too long and boring. Maybe Carroll Shelby was really like that, if so I wouldn’t have liked him. We borrowed the film from our local public library (before the shelter-in-place order).

Love, Wedding, Repeat, on Netflix.

This is a screwball romantic comedy about a wedding reception in Rome. The movie is completely frivolous, and fun to watch.

I don't subscribe to a movie streaming service and rarely watch movies, but I got desperate last night. I selected two movies that good good reviews. Watched on Amazon for $3.99 each.

Blue Valentine: This one I like a lot. About problems in a marriage. A couple rauncy sex scenes.

God's Own County: OMG, don't see this one if you are a senstive animal lover. Also, many very graphic sex scenes. I turned the movie off once, and went back to it because I couldn't find anything else to watch. I had to fast-forward some of the animal scenes. That said, it was quite believable with good acting.

Cable TV is getting unbearable anymore with commericals every 2 minutes.

Watched “The Tale of a Princess Kaguya” with the kids. Pretty cheerful movie with one of the roughest endings I’ve ever seen in a movie. Weighed on my mind the last few days.
