Passport Expediting Services
Does anyone have experience with passport expediting services? Between FedEx and service fees, they add about $150+ in cost but significantly speed up the process.
Unfortunately our passports were lost in the mail and we need replacements quickly.
Thanks in advance.

Before I retired my employer used Travisa. They are expensive but definitely speed things up. They basically hire couriers who drive the paperwork to NYC or DC and stand in line for you. Nothing you can not do yourself, but if you value your time it is worth it.
Re: Passport Expediting Services
I just renewed my passport in May. I did not use a non-governmental expediting service, but just used the US Passport Agency's expedited service I overnighted my check with the form and received my new passport by USPS overnight about 7 days later. I think the only faster way to get this done is to go in person.

Fees are as published: $110 + $60 + $12.85 = $182.85 and the cost to overnight docs to them.

Our company has used Travisa also, costs a lot but gets the job done.

While I have not used a service to expedite a new passport, I have paid to expedite my Chinese visas every time I have needed one. I use Washington Passport and Visa Service:

They have always been very prompt.

My local post office provides passport service. You may want to see if one in your area offers it.

Re: Passport Expediting Services
I just received my renewed passport using normal service. They said to expect 4-6 weeks. It actually took just 21 days total, including mail time (using regular 1st class).
Re: Passport Expediting Services
Applied my passport the day of my naturalization, and used CIBT which my employer prefers. I got it the passport in two days, and the cost was about $200 extra on top of what you normally pay. Other options are getting an appointment from one of the regional passport agencies (http://travel.state.gov/passport/npic/s ... e_852.html), or getting with next day delivery through the USPS (but for this option, just the delivery is the next day, this is after the passport is ready).
I applied at the courthouse with the "courier service" they checked all documents, put them in a sealed envelope, and I fedex'ed this envelope to CIBT.

It has been many years now, but in the mid '90s I needed a passport quickly for a job assignment that came up quickly. Some friends recommended contacting my Congressman to get an earlier appointment -- and it helped a lot. I have no idea whether that can still help, but it would not hurt to give it a try.

Re: Passport Expediting Services
I used the expediting service that was recommended by my local passport office with very poor results. I gave my name and credit card # to a recording and when no passport appeared in the expected time, followed up and was - eventually - told that my credit card was not accepted because my name was the 2nd one on the account and the service doesn't follow up or notify the hapless customer when that occurs. I did complain to the State Dept. about their recommendee, but, of course, never heard from them either.

Re: Passport Expediting Services
A few years ago, needing to have more visa pages added, I asked my employer and they said they'd pay for expedited service and overnight shipping both directions. That was pretty quick.
A couple of years later I asked the same question about a renewal. They said they'd rather not pay.
I've not had a foreign business trip since then, so I guess they knew what they were deciding.

Co-worker did one recently, worked in the limited amount of time he had.

Used the expedited service for our 2 month old daughter since we took a trip to Sweden. Worked really well. Even got denied the first time since the photo wasn't according to the rules. So sent a new one and they sent the password a few days later.
