Just purchased a laptop with Windows 7. No email!

Had been used to using Outlook Express in Windows XP.

Would appreciate advice on best email program to adopt and users experience feedback.

Regards

If you need a calendar with Thunderbird I've found Lightning the best.

MS Essentials has a free email program called Live Mail that can be downloaded or you can just use your web based email.

After using IMAP, I wouldn't want to go back to POP3.

As posted above, Live Mail is Microsoft's replacement for Outlook Express

Windows Live Mail supports both IMAP and POP servers.

It seems particularly adept at handling multiple email accounts, such as work account on a company server and a gmail account.
Very configurable in terms of views.

I had the same issue when I went from XP to Win 7, and I chose Thunderbird. The TB user interface is very similar to OE's so it's easy to get up to speed. Plus TB provides support for importing your OE Email directly into TB.

Note: I did the conversion on my XP machine and then moved the TB files to my Win 7 machine. It also took me a couple tries to get it right, but I'm happy with the final result.

I have used Live Mail with Win 7 and it seems close to OE in Win XP. I have multiple gmail accounts and need an email client that handles that.

This thread is now in the Personal Consumer Issues forum (email).

I'm using Thunderbird on both Linux and Win 7 - I share the same files between them. IOW, I get the same email if I'm on Linux or Windows 7.

(You can also do this with TrueCrypt and KeePass files.)

I'll 2nd and 3rd the vote of confidence in Thunderbird.
Been with them for a long time, XP to 7.

Exactly, would never use non-web email unless I had to (ie for work).
