Titanic II, would you take a cruise?

Post by Jay69 »

How about some Friday fun in Bogleland!

I can’t decide if this guy is off his rocker or just brilliant.

Would you take a cruise on the Titanic II?

Not if they're going near any icebergs. Are they going to add more lifeboats?

I don't think it would be legal to build an exact replica. Watertight compartments, not watertight bulkheads that only extend a few decks above the keel are standard today. Also, thanks to Titanic I, all cruise ships must carry enough lifeboats to hold everybody on board.

Cruises? I'll never do in my lifetime. Not that I ever get seasick or anything, because I don't, but I'd rather be on land exploring and seeing cultures, countries, cities, attractions and be relaxing on a beach or hiking rather than being at sea and seeing nothing for days, or spending 2-3 hours in a port and before you know it, you're whisked off again before you are able to take in the local attractions, culture, etc. Oh, the cabins are small, too for sleeping. Not really my cup of tea...

I've been on 3 cruises now (Bahamas, Caribbean, Mexico), through three different cruise lines (Norwegian, Carnival, Holland America) and they were all fantastic. If you pick the right cruises you are on land most of the day (6-10 hours, not 2-3 as you say), your rooms are larger than you think, the staff are awesome, the atmosphere is fantastic (not to mention how massive the boats are!), and the meals/food are superb. Give it a try some time and you'll change your opinion.

Now, as far as the Titanic II goes... I'll wait until its second voyage, just in case. :)

Crazy, cause the cruises I've been on have been at port for 12 hours.

Land vacations and cruises both have their place in a diversified vacation portfolio! :D
Just be sure to vacation with low cost index errrrrr highly rated Tripadvisor and low cost Priceline deals.

Don't worry about the name.

They can't do a remake of Titanic for the cruise line business. It wouldn't be economical. The Titanic was an ocean liner and built for a speed run across the North Atlantic. The cruise business builds ships now which look nothing like the Titanic.

Titanic had two other sisters, she was a triplet. So Titanic II isn't really breaking new ground.

Olympic - Retired in 1935 and scrapped.

Britannic - Hit a mine in 1916 and sunk.

Two of three had REALLY bad luck. I'd be willing to give Titanic II a try after the bugs are worked out, and safety is proven. These ships do seem cursed.

I'd do it in a heartbeat. It seems like it would be great fun and a real adventure. I may have overlooked it in the thread, but how much does it cost?

I'll pass on a ride on the space shuttle Challenger II also.

Plenty of people sailed on the Titanic's sister ship RMS Olympic for over twenty years after the Titanic sank.

Welcome aboard the Titanic II - at the helm is Capt. Hazelwood and our competent staff have all "jumped ship" over to ours from Carnival Cruise Lines. You are in very capable hands.

Only if Merrrill Stubing is at the helm and Isaac is pouring the liquor.

So that's a no....

If we could dress in Edwardian clothing and if there was a small group of passengers, unlike the case with today's floating mini-cities, I'd be up for it. I've longed to travel to Europe in an old fashioned luxury liner.

What a fun venue that would be for a historical novelists' convention!

Do people dress up? Violins at dinner? It would almost be worth it for that.
